December 11, 201411 yr All four guys we gave up had a decent future with this team... Just seems way too high of a cost.
December 11, 201411 yr This is all of course everyone assuming that we're done after this trade. We don't know. Really Heaney is the only real piece we gave up, and its not a small piece either.
December 11, 201411 yr I can't believe how much Heaney's trade value fell off in the eyes of our front office. I can't believe how much Kike Hernandez's value fell of with our front office (he was the other major piece outside of Cosart and basically gave up Jake Marisnick to get him/Wates). I can't believe they NEEDED to give up Barnes on top of everything else to get him, although the Dodgers will probably value Barnes higher and use him properly since I trust in Friedman to do the right thing. I don't trust Hill to not undervalue our own players. The Marlins do this way too often. They undervalue their own players, sell them off when there value may be lowest and buy high on players who are bound for a dose of reality soon enough. I'm not saying Dee Gordon will become a replacement player, but that's a hell of a list of players to give up for a guy who can't even OPS .750.
December 11, 201411 yr Joe Frisaro @JoeFrisaro As part of deal #Marlins also are receiving another player, perhaps a Minor Leaguer
December 11, 201411 yr Barnes was not going find any playing time here. they're sold on Salty and Realmuto
December 11, 201411 yr I really wish I could see the look on all of your faces right now when I say the following sentence: Dee Gordon and Adeiny Hechavarria up the middle for the next 3-4 years.
December 11, 201411 yr Dee Gordon and Adeiny Hechavarria up the middle for the next 3-4 years. It's not Solano but it'll do
December 11, 201411 yr Frisario says its Gordon & Haren and 1 minor leaguer for Heaney, Hatcher, Barnes, Hernandez. I mean was Gordon for Heaney not enough?? Jesus.
December 11, 201411 yr good, versatile, solid does not equate to LOPSIDED. if the best thing you can say about a player is he's versatile; then he is basically average-below average. bullpens are dime a dozen.
December 11, 201411 yr Wow it seems the Marlins really overpaid on Gordon! Haren is a wash he will never wear a Marlins Jersey Heaney, Hatcher the Pitcher, Kike, Austin Barnes Gordon needs to really become a premier lead-off hitter fast
December 11, 201411 yr Bonifacio's still a free-agent if all they were looking for was a speedster...
December 11, 201411 yr Someone seriously needs to address the Haren retirement situation. Is there compensation if he does retire? Why even take him if that's even possible? Wow
December 11, 201411 yr Someone seriously needs to address the Haren retirement situation. Is there compensation if he does retire? Why even take him if that's even possible? Wow He likes rainbows, he's staying
December 11, 201411 yr This is all of course everyone assuming that we're done after this trade. We don't know. Really Heaney is the only real piece we gave up, and its not a small piece either. That's BS. Hernandez was set to be our starting 2B and he's actually pretty useful outside his so so first stint with the Marlins. When not accounting for stolen bases he could definitely surpass Gordon in total WAR and other statistics next season. Barnes is an undervalued player in our system and should probably be in AAA and possibly even the majors already. At the very least he's a very useful utility guy. Hatcher was one of the keys of our bullpen last season surprisingly and we know that it can be damn hard to find a consistent bullpen guy at times. We gave up value. Not A+ value outside of Heaney but solid B value with each player having a future in the majors next year. Even if Haren plays next year that's a lot of money to pay for a pitcher like him, and if he retires like he said he would it is just embarrassing for the team. Gordon is a decent addition, but this is the kind of thing that I was afraid of happening. The Marlins buying high on other teams players and selling low on their own players. They also need to learn to stop dealing with good GM's like Dombrowski and Friedman. If they're willing to take a deal from us it probably means we're getting f*cked in the butt.
December 11, 201411 yr Stanton just tweeted: "All right, I'm pissed!" :lol Funny though Stanton and Dee seemed to get along in their brief interactions
December 11, 201411 yr Barnes was not going find any playing time here. they're sold on Salty and Realmuto Barnes plays 2B too. He's capable of playing a few positions actually. That isn't the issue. If we wanted to we could've found a spot for Barnes. It's annoying how we sold super low on literally four players.
December 11, 201411 yr :lol Funny though Stanton and Dee seemed to get along in their brief interactions Don't let the facts get in the way of a good post.
