December 20, 201411 yr Author Prado Yelich Stanton Morse Ozuna Saltalamacchia Gordon Hechavarria Although, I know Gordon is going to be handed the leadoff spot no questions asked because the fact that he struggles to get on base is irrelevant because SPEED and stuff.
December 20, 201411 yr Honestly, if Dee doesn't lead off, I'd rather Red pull a La Russa and bat him 9th after the pitcher. LF Yelich 3B Prado RF Stanton 1B Morse CF Ozuna C Salty SS Hechavarria P Pitcher 2B Gordon Otherwise, yeah, his speed is basically wasted. Simply put, The lineup Entendu posted.
December 20, 201411 yr Anything without Garshit Jones... thank God he is gone... already missing my husband, Casey though..

Gordon had a higher .OBP than Prado last year... Also the things Brett Butler will do to increase Gordon .OBP is gonna be fun to watch.
December 20, 201411 yr Gordon Yelich Stanton Morse Prado Ozuna Salty Hech Pitcher I don't understand Prado 5th here. If he's not 1 or 2, better off at 6/7 with this team.
December 20, 201411 yr Gordon Yelich Stanton Morse Prado Ozuna Salty Hech Pitcher I don't understand Prado 5th here. If he's not 1 or 2, better off at 6/7 with this team. Balance imo. Speed at 1, Contact ability and good OBP at 2, power bats at 3/4, Good contact ability at 5 (I didn't want 3 hitters back to back to back with high strikeout rates), back to a power bat at 6, then obvious Salty/Hech at 7/8. I just feel good with Prado there. No issue with Ozuna at 5 and Prado at 6, that works for me too. I just want to spread out the lineup where we're not going potentially too top heavy (although there's really no scenario that happens). Like I've said before, most of these lineup arguments won't make much of a difference in terms of run production in the end, rather it's just a matter of personal preference.

Again, it's possible that Gordon gets on base at a higher rate than he did last season but until that happens he should be hitting 7th, 8th or 9th. The need to have guys who makes less outs at the top of the lineup is much more statistically important than "speed." Doing so will create more run producing opportunities for the middle of the lineup. You don't inhibit Gordon's running game by a measurable quantity by hitting him at the bottom of the lineup because the hitters after Stanton and Morse are not going to be getting on base at a large enough clip anyway. Lineups don't have a tremendous impact in the end, but to the extent that it matters, they Marlins would be wise to have Yelich and Prado at the top.
December 21, 201411 yr Gordon Prado Yelich Stanton Morse Ozuna Salty Hechavarria P This woukd be mine. This is what's likely to come: Gordon Yelich Stanton Morse Ozuna Prado Saltalamacchia Hechavarria After the first few weeks of this, we will see the lineup change with performances of each player dictating things. If Gordon tanks you'll eventually see Yelich/Prado up top. If Ozuna becomes the next Torri Hunter you could see him slide to clean up. Etc

If Prado doesn't hit second, he should hit after Morse though to balance out the high number of K's in that part of the lineup. I think this was mentioned before

December 21, 201411 yr I want to start Gordon hitting between 6-9, but I actually like the idea of Yelich hitting third. Borrowing some theory from 'The BOOK: Playing the Percentages in Baseball,' it is recommended to put your best three batters at the first, second, and fourth spot in the lineup, so I like the idea of Stanton hitting cleanup. The fourth slot typically see's the most runners on base. Gordon Prado Yelich Stanton Morse Ozuna Salty Pitcher Hech I'm ok with giving Gordon the first shot. If Gordon doesn't cut it and keep his OBP at least over .320 you can move him down and move Prado/Yelich up. But to clear up some thoughts on where Gordon's speed would or would not be effective in the lineup, the book does say steals are actually more valuable later in the lineup, because there is less power than the middle of the order and a steal into scoring position has more value for a late lineup single. On Base comes first.

Yea, but like I said, I understand that Gordon will get the first shot, so in accepting this, I'll take this lineup. No. 3 spot is still a valuable slot to put Yeli in.
