April 18, 201511 yr When does Loria do his thing... And Shit Can Ass Fire Redmond? if there one thing this moron owner will do its eat money on managers. you know its coming, just a matter of when....
April 18, 201511 yr http://m.marlins.mlb.com/news/article/108452762/former-marlins-manager-jack-mckeon-aiming-to-be-mlbs-oldest-skipper
April 18, 201511 yr There's no way Loria fires Redmond, but I would not fault him at all for doing so. Redmond is not a good manager.
April 18, 201511 yr I think any manager deserves at least 20 games before getting canned. That said, I haven't been a fan of Redmond's decision making throughout his career as the head skipper.
April 18, 201511 yr Who would replace him? Are there any obvious options out there? Besides McKeon that is.
April 18, 201511 yr Does it matter? Redmond's decision are often questionable, but he seems to be well-liked. At the end of the day, players win and lose games. Right now, the starting rotation can't go deep into games and the lineup has been rather inconsistent. The lineup should be more consistent as the year goes on and the pitching should get better once the team is healthier. At the end of the day, there's not much a manager can do to turn this mess around right now. It's up to the players, and it's tough to win when you have a rotation full of backend starters. It is what it is.
April 18, 201511 yr Also, the team's message this offseason was to maintain stability. I highly doubt that changes after 13 games (assuming they also lose these last two to the Mets).
April 18, 201511 yr It's not very hard to find someone who is well liked by the players. Firing Redmond of course wouldn't turn anything around, but I do estimate that having a manager who is much more skilled at optimizing match-ups (pinch hitting or relief) among other things, would at least have some tangible positive impact on the team's final record.
April 18, 201511 yr He gave Torborg until May, eventually the Marlins will realize you can't buy team chemistry! The more important question is who will they hire if/when Loria makes a change?
April 18, 201511 yr I'm with Erick. They've been preaching team stability and they gave Red an extension. It's too soon to call for his head. Especially with those comments from Stanton about playing for five managers in his five years here.
April 18, 201511 yr Stability or not, Loria cannot allow this team to fall 10+ games behind and expect to make the playoffs - and I am sure that is what he is expecting. Canning Red would send a message more than anything else to the players. As for his replacement, I think since he would still be paying Red, it's going to be a minor league call-up type. Possibility of an ex-manager too - Charlie Manuel or Kirk Gibson, especially the latter as we know Loria gets starry-eyed with "big names". God forbid its McKeon - he's like 86 isn't he ?
April 18, 201511 yr IF Loria fires Red, Loria will not go for a young, inexperience manager. Will pursue a vet coach. With that said, DO NOT be surprised if he pursues Leyland.
April 18, 201511 yr If he was to fire Redmond I wouldn't rule out McKeon just because he can step in right away. Erick is right though it is up to the players right now to turn it around although the way Remond manages the bullpen absolutely sucks.
April 19, 201511 yr Aren't they still paying Ozzie tho year? Ae they really doing to pay 3 managers at once?
April 19, 201511 yr Firing Mr Red wont change anything We got lucky in 2003, Most of the time it doesn't work out like that, either the team has it, or doesn't have it, and when I mean team, im talking about the players on the field.
April 19, 201511 yr Aren't they still paying Ozzie tho year? Ae they really doing to pay 3 managers at once? Ozzie and Redmond were bad hires in the first place. Having them under contract is no excuse to refrain from getting someone better.
April 19, 201511 yr It's unfortunate that the team let Edwin Rodriguez resign for reasons that really weren't his fault.
April 19, 201511 yr Ozzie and Redmond were bad hires in the first place. Having them under contract is no excuse to refrain from getting someone better. I agree that they should get someone better, but would they actually do it? The fact that they kept Redmond this year after the compete over haul to the roster makes me wonder if they would. They bring in all this talent (at least on paper) but keep what has already proven to be at best a mediocre manager to run it
