fire dan Jennings

Each appointment has been a step backwards:

Ozzie (ex-MLB player, ex-MLB manager)

Red (ex-MLB player, not an ex-MLB manager)

DJ (not an ex-MLB player, not an ex-MLB manager)

So, we'll be looking for someone who's never played in MLB, and who has never managed successfully in any capacity.

I think they'll hire Michael Scott, even though he is a fictional character.

Ron swanson would be awesome.

I bet satalamacchia finds this funny

In defense of those who had said that pretty much anymore can manage the team and the results would be the same, that's also said under the assumption that an actual manager is doing the managing. Anything less, such as Dan Jennings, is gonna do more negative than positive.

To be fair, the results have been pretty much the same. Managers are still pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Remember back some years ago (maybe the 80's), Yea I could look it up, when the Cubs did not even have managers but used bench coaches making decisions.

Something people haven't brought up on: He replaced Morse with Ichiro in the bottom of the 7th. So why did he not pinch run for Morse in the top of the 7th? Ichiro very likely scores on that double. Complete lack of foresight and planning.

Just an absolutely terribly managed game. It bears repeating infinitely how bad the 8th inning bullpen management was.

I know this is your thing and all, but I still disagree. Yes, the role of the manager is probably overrated. If the Marlins had Joe Maddon managing them, they'd still be a lousy team. However, I bet that the Marlins managed by Joe Maddon would still win more games than a team managed by Dan Jennings over the course of a season. It wouldn't be a tremendous amount more, but I'd wager it would be more than irrelevant. Even 2 games would be relevant for me.

Saying the manager is completely irrelevant is simply bullshit.  The manager decided last night to PH for Jose (I didn't mind it), but the fact is another manager may have NOT PH for Jose there and that would have completely changed the landscape of the game going forward. The manager last night took Capps out after one batter and brought Dunn in.  Another manager may have done differently resulting in a different finish.

Yep, makes a real difference to be 72-90 instead of 70-92......

I said "pretty irrelevant." Honestly, there's no metric to judge managers so it's impossible to know for sure.

And my reply wasn't wrong, statistically speaking. The Marlins haven't been much worse with Jennings managing. They're 22-30 with him and they went 16-22 with Redmond. And, to be fair, it's not Jennings fault that Marcell Ozuna became complete dog shit when he took over as manager. It's not Jennings fault that Stanton got injured.

At the end of the day, what Jennings did wrong was putting this team together when he was the GM. As a manager, he's done some dumb shit, but so has just about every manager. Is there a fanbase in baseball that likes the manager of their team? There are always going to be fans who criticize the manager.

I don't care who's managing the team. When Morse is playing LF, Gillespie is starting every night, McGehee is playing 3B, etc., etc. the team sucks. You could bring whoever you want to manage this team -- the team is still going to suck because this team sucks.

Exactly this.

Obviously that would not matter smart ass.  But it would matter if it came down to 1 or 2 games for a playoff spot which it often does.

Not for the Marlins......
