Brian Ellington up, Cody Hall optioned

I cant remember, did the Marlins ever try him in the bullpen?  Or was that after he left the Marlins?

He was tried in the pen a few times and it didn't work out. He never really had a set role in the pen though.

As a Marlins fan, it's tough to watch him dominate these days. That trade changed this franchise for seemingly ever.

I'm curious to see if the Marlins are having any talks for acquiring a SP or RP. Loria has always had a hard on for chapman. I wonder if they try for him if the Yankees fall out of the race.

I'd only want Chapman if we could sign him for a long term deal. Having a long term bullpen of Chapman, Capps, Ramos, Barraclough would be awesome.

I mean, the Yankees didn't give up much for him, and that was for a full season

Of coarse, the "not much for him" would be a couple players that would be among our best prospects if they were in our system. But it's not like, say, Jarlin Garica and Austin Dean are all that important.

I'm also pro moving Naylor if the right move shows itself, as his skill set of low stirke out, low walk, high power rates has a pretty big burn out rate. But he's also young enough so the patience may still come.

I'd imagine the Yankees would ask for Austin Brice. He'd be the centerpiece of that deal. He's got huge upside but didn't start to figure things out until this season. I don't think I'd want to do that deal (Brice and smaller pieces), but that's what I think it'd take to get it done.

I'd like to wait on Naylor. I think the patience issue can be fixed since he's just 18 years old and it's his first full season in professional baseball. The low strikeout rate and high contact ability is a positive sign, although it's unknown how the power will develop with him. If you compare Naylor's first two months in the majors to Christian Yelich's first two months at the same age, you get similar results. It took Yelich until his third month to really break out. From what I've seen Naylor has a smooth swing similar to Yelich (if not quite refined just yet) and just needs time and patience. He seems to be a guy with Yelich potential and a lot of time available to develop. This isn't a Colin Moran situation where we need to see results immediately.

Course not coarse.
