Definitely a gamble but it's a lot like what the Yankees did last season with both Chapman and Miller... get them as future prospect bait. Not that we'd do the trades right but I think that's the concept here IF Jansen or the team itself is a bust.

I don't think anyone should be offering more than 4 years on closers especially on how volatile they can be in nature. I understand the FA starting pitching class is weak. But what happens next year?

 

Let's just say he signs for 5 years and $80 million that is $16 million a year. Marlins are not the type of the team to either pay the annual salary evenly or even front load the contract.

Well, the difference is that two of those guys are homegrown and another is one we extended.

 

2012 just consisted of a bunch of rogue free-agent signings.
