The fact that we reportedly have the largest offer and Jansen is taking this long leads me to believe that he has reservations about coming to play for the Marlins.  Maybe he is waiting for the Dodgers or Nationals to ante up?

If the Nationals get him we are screwed. Having the possibility to face Jansen 18-19 times for 5 years would be torture. Nationals just don't have the money. They would probably go up to $60 million, even then it would be with drawn out deferrals.

 

If Jansen just wants the money, he is making it with our offer once you factor in taxes and everything.

I think he'll end up taking our offer in the end. Players generally go after the money. He might just be waiting to see if the Dodgers match, which, going off of current reports, they won't.

I'm on the fence about this.  On the one hand, who the hell wouldn't want a lock down closer like Jansen.  On the other hand, a closer doesn't get us any closer to the playoffs.  A decent starting pitcher and another power bat would probably be the best route to go.  However, if we miss out on both Chapman and Jansen, I have a feeling that Loria will close up shop and say "we tried".  I just have a feeling like it's all or nothing with the pursuit of these two pitchers.

Free agents will pick other teams for various reasons.

 

A big reason still going back to how Loria treated Jose Reyes and Mark Bueherle.  

 

Marlins will have to overpay and by a lot to get a top flight free agent.  

 

Or the  free agent will need to have strong ties to South Florida.

 

Or the free agent has literally no other viable options.

I have to hand it to LA man. California is amazing. I will say this though, the cost of living is unlike any other STATE. Last time I went a bottle of water was 9 bucks at a gas station. NO THANK YOU!
