January 19, 20179 yr I just can't envision this timing winning long term without a farm system. Sure, other teams have done it without a farm, but that's not how this organization does things due to the 1) money constraints and 2) the bad, close to horrible decision making of signing free agents. If it costs losing a few players to rebuild the farm system, I am completely down for that. By that I mean everyone is available. My point is .... I don't think these type of trades makes us any better, for depth purposes I can see the value.

January 19, 20179 yr To be honest... some "fire sales" are warranted. There may be a point within the next two years that this team has to backtrack and sell off some pieces. So if it does happen it doesn't automatically mean everyone here should run for the hills. Every team does this at some point and many successful teams today got to this point starting with a fire sale of some kind. So relax.
January 19, 20179 yr Too much thought is being put into this 13 man bullpen thing. I can't think of a single NL team that has actually done that consistently. Every team around spring training says it's a possibility but it never happens for more than a few weeks if not days. The Marlins will be no different, they'll carry 5 bench guys. The 5th bench guy is usually irrelevant. Do we really need to have a Robert Andino on the roster?

Barraclough 13. Ramos 14. Realmuto 15. AJ Ellis 16. Bour 17. Gordon 18. Dietrich 19. Hechavarria 20. Rojas 21. Prado 22. Yelich 23. Stanton 24. Ozuna 25. Ichiro It's looking like Realmuto will be the playing 1st a lot vs. lefties. Also gives Dietrich/Rojas more ABs in OF/around the diamond. Yeah, I agree that this is what they should do at this point.

January 19, 20179 yr not really, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut. he seems really well made for marlins park (very extreme fb) which looks like thought and effort was put into going after him. I think he's got room to go w/ the k rate based on his swgstrk %s. He seems similar to Wei-Yin Chen which didn't work out last year. He probably has a problem with HR's because he's a right-handed pitcher with an 89 mph average fastball. He can't afford to make many mistakes in the strike zone, and I don't think Marlins Park will help much. Realistically, Straily could probably be a decent #4. He's not much better (if he's better at all) than what we already had, but I guess he does provide more immediate depth.

Ichiro can play all 3 OF spots. Dietrich can play left and 3rd. Rojas can play the entire infield. Dietrich, Rojas, and Realmuto can play 1st. So what's the point of having a Telis or Hood occupy a spot to go 0-1 every 3rd day?
