Guys who I believe the new group will jettison via shit trades to shed salary and will not be in uniform for the Fish on opening day:

Ozuna

Dietrich

Gordon

Yelich - I'm thinking he'll  be included in a deal to dump one of the horrid contracts they're saddled with.

Prado - This won't hurt as much as we thought it would at the start of the season

Realmuto - see:Yelich

I'm actually thinking they'll convince Ichiro to come back and he'll be leading off once Gordon is shipped off.

You really think Stanton will be here? Rumors are they want to get payroll to 55 mil. Stanton is half that.

Stanton, Ozuna, Gordon likely gone.

Yelich is a maybe.

They'll keep JT, no one wants Prado.

The next 3-4 years will be some of the worst we've ever seen.

Stanton could stay but everyone else is gone. In 06 I think they had like a 15 mil payroll and D-Train and Miggy was like 5 mil of it each (roughly).

Full no trade clause. It's not Jeters decision if Stanton goes. Never forget that.

True but if Stanton sees everyone around him being traded and he can't see us competing realistically for another 3 years i don't see why he wouldn't waive the clause. I don't want him to leave obviously but I wouldn't blame him.

But given the fact we won't be winners for years....do you think Stanton decides to move on and forgo that huge contract ?? Will be interesting to see what motivates the man in several years.

First of all, even if he decides to leave he doesn't forgo the contract. He gets that money no matter where he plays unless he opts out. Switching teams doesn't negate the contract.

Secondly, there's also no guarantee that the team he gets traded to is gonna be an immediate winner either so there's always the chance he'd prefer to stay here, be the face of the franchise (yes, even in losing seasons, look at 2017 as a perfect example), and hopefully ride out the storm and still be here for the next good team.

I mean, I know it's unlikely, but what if Jeter does figure this out fairly quickly and the team is good 2 to 3 years from now? Stanton is definitely young enough to still be a significant part of that. It's not all the same but look at Ryan Zimmerman being productive for the Nationals at age 32 after riding out their bad years in his twenties. Stanton could be similar.

Again, I'm not saying all of this is likely but it's all more reasons why Stanton might not really mind staying.

It wouldn't be because they want to keep him, they'd still have to find a trade partner who would take on that monster of a contract. Stanton, finally having a season that semi-justifies that contract should help in that regard but it's still a ton of owed $$$.  They'd get pennies on the dollar in return value too because they sure as shit don't sound like the type to send money in order to get better prospects.  Red Sox maybe would pull that trigger?  Dunno. Stanton's only issue is the contract because there just aren't that many teams that can take it on (including the one he plays for).
