Hope they go all in for him, but with the 10M average annual salary in the past three years, he needs to take a big discount to come here.

He definitely will take a pay cut. The deal will more than likely be a 1-year deal with incentives.

Good move, can't complain... also, not that it really matters but it's at least an example of them spending some money and not obviously tanking. They're trying to improve the MLB club with this move.

With that said this is probably more for the mentoring and leadership, plus it solidifies a position that they shouldn't have to worry about as much as they have in recent seasons. And yes, best case scenario he is trade deadline bait.

Still waiting for the big bat addition though.

Cervelli needs to retire or stop catching for his own health.

Its a who cares move in the end, probably overpaying him but its a 1 year deal so who cares.

Might want to sign another catcher and stash in AAA for when Cervelli gets his 2020 concussion, though. Might as well donate his brain to the CTE folks now.

Everyone here cares to some degree, except you, as always... why are you even here?

I know the team motto of late seems to have been "player X was just out of our price range" but come on, $2M is not an overpay here.

Someone explain why this is a better move than Holaday behind the plate. I don’t know much about either so what’s the advantage?

It wouldn't surprise me if they bring back Holaday to backup Cervelli that backup Alfaro …

At that point its probably redundant and easier to just give that 3rd string catcher spot to Wallach. And with the 26th roster spot there may be points that they do carry 3 catchers on the roster. Anyone after those three would just be cycling through the journeymen catchers scattered in the minors.

Maybe Cervelli will be a better mentor/leader, he has more big league experience including more time with playoff teams. Other than that, not sure why there'd be an advantage here.

No advantage. No idea why they didn't resign Holaday.
