The Marlins really have 3 realistic options for high leverage reliever at this point I feel:

Kenley Janson

Ryan Tepera

Craig Kimbrell

So we will see how serious they are about that upgrade.

If they are going to upgrade CF it has to be done via trade, since there are really no actual good center field free agents remaining on the market.

Let's see what they can do or if Mish will continue being the boy that cried wolf.

Why do people keep spelling Kimbrel wrong?

Anyways.

All the players we want are ... still available. It's entirely possible the Pirates are asking too much for Reynolds, and fair play to them for that, they should do that.

Pivot to Laureano, if anything.

I hate Craig as a pitcher, so it would be fitting if the Marlins acquried him, tbh.

Also the Pirates have zero incentive to trade Reynolds unless they actually get what they want.

So I get that entirely.

Sherman here pretty much repeats multiple times that they'll never rebuild or have another fire sale. That's hard to actually stick to but it's nice to hear that mindset for once, especially to flat out say it so boldly. Time will tell of course...

Give me Cedric Mullins over Laureano by a mile

“They seem to think they are in much better shape than they were a year ago ”, this scares me the most, you won't continue to invest if you think you're good already.

Inspired by Sherman's statements yesterday but now these from Mish, I don't know …

Well, at this point, let's see....

Added:

Garcia

Stallings

Wendle

spare parts

Subtracted:

Marte

Alfaro

Brinson

Panik

I feel like I'm missing some things, but I guess you could argue that theoretically they're better in some worse in others, so maybe tilted in the better direction based on how much you value the loss of Marte vs. the other additions

Stallings > Alfaro........+catcher

Garcia > Brinson.........+RF

? > Marte.......................BIG - CF

Wendle > Panik .........+ utility

Sign Correa, slide Miggy Ro to 2nd, and throw Jazz in CF.  Sign Kanley Jensen.

AND........Even if you keep Pablo, I STILL would argue in favor of signing a GOOD vet like Greinke to safeguard against the inevitable injury that comes to some member of the rotation every year.  I know we have good pitchers down in the system to slot in, but I'd still like to see someone with playoff experience/a vet to come in and mentor while contributing a good chunk of innings.

One can dream lol.

Yup! Or:

1. sign Correa

2. slide Miggy to 3B,

3. Include BA in a trade for a good backend of the bullpen arm,

4. Trade for Reynolds/Mullins,

5. Sign Rosario to platoon with Coop at DH

6.  Trade Aguilar for whatever they’re willing to give you.

7. Sign a veteran starter

at which point you have:

C-Stallings

1B- Lewin/coop

2b - Jazz/Wendle

SS- Correa/Wendle

3B- Miggy/Wendle

RF- Garcia

CF- Reynolds or Mullins

LF- Sanchez

DH- Rosario/Coop

bench- Wendle, De la Cruz, Astudillo, coop/Rosario, Fortes

Ypu instantly have a GREATLY improved team that, with the pitching they have, can be right up there with Atlanta. I don’t care what it costs, this will still be a roughly middle of the pack payroll and Sherman is a billionaire. Let’s fucking go.

MLB still lockout Marlins, when the lockout ended Ng would starting to make major league moves. OK, it makes me feel better.

Fine by me.

The casual fans (and some diehards) look at the surface numbers and think that's a repeatable trick here.

23 HR and 72 RBI of that total came in Cincinnati. That's an ALARMING split.

Also .359 at home and .260 on the road.

Slugged .702 at home, .454 on the road.

He'd be essentially a higher average Mike Jacobs here paid at 20x the amount.

Attach Bednar to B. Reynolds, and go in hard with two of Watson, Meyer, and Eury, as well as one of Bleday or Burdick. What are they going to do - hold that deal up for a reliever?

Then maybe trade Floro for a young club controlled lefty..... because that then makes sense.....

Eury they've made untouchable, so Watson, Meyer, and Bleday it is. Add McCambley too, I'd say.

I’m definitely not in the camp of saying “they screwed this up, where are the moves, where’s the splash signing, etc etc”. However, I do think they’ve done a pretty poor communications/PR job this far.

Stop telling fans how much money you have, how committed you are, how you’re going to do something. Just do it. Go through the process of making that big move, finish it, close it, and then have your press conference
