This is pathetic and disappointing. I’m mildly depressed, and I really didn’t see that emotional impact happening. I guess I had gotten my hopes up, but this one took a lot out of me, and my brain is flirting with ideas of finally releasing this team. If this proves to be their MO — and you know, fool me once, fool me twice, that whole thing — who knows how long it will be until a new ownership that might give us hope of real spending and a competitive product… Sigh. At least we have the Heat, Panthers, and Tyler Van Dyke. Agreed. I'm still giving them the offseason, but hopes dwindle as the days go by. 12 minutes ago, SonOfJack said: my guess from that wording is they probably topped out at 3 or 4 years, 60 M. 1 minute ago, Major-Minor said: Panthers look fricken incredible. I've been watching just about every game, which I've never done before. Amazing what a winning product will do lol.
November 27, 20214 yr Lost in all the frustration is the fact that there was actually a major free agent who really wanted to sign with the damn Miami Marlins and gave them multiple chances to do so. Who the hell does that? The Marlins need guys like that and I think they should have been more aggressive for that factor alone. Guys like Marte Rojas and Sandy could really help turn around the perception of this franchise. Damn I want that.

November 28, 20214 yr I'll tell you what this feels like. It feels like Sherman, Jeter, and maybe even Ng all were hoping the FA market would remain depressed like it was last offseason and simply assumed they could trade Marte and then just give him what he wanted all along. Lo and behold, the FA market is pretty much back to pre-covid days in terms of the amounts people are signing for. I 100% guarantee you Realmuto would have signed for waaaay more this year if this was his FA year than he did last. It feels very much like they're getting sticker shock now after boasting they're going to make these FA big bat additions. I'm guessing we'll overpay for someone like Avisail Garcia (who sucks imo) and then trade away some pitching versus just spending money on buying a fucking bat for once. Whoever said at the beginning that this is one of, if not the most embarassing moment for this FO is right. Jesus Lizard had better become a legit #1 starter because Marte fit in on this team in so many ways and was literally asking for almost nothing in return (relatively speaking in terms of what people are signing for).

They were stupid not to take advantage of the depressed market last year.

Supposedly they did "try" with JT and had the 2nd highest offer...but I also was very disappointed they didn't beat the winning bid based on how much he received and how much they desperately needed to fill that position. But anyway, the Marte thing shows how fucking cheap they really are. Even when a guy CLEARLY offers a discount because he wants to stay they lowball the discounted offer.

Even so, given the history, they probably would've had to beat it soundly for him to have come back.

Eh, I think most players tend to follow the money unless there was some truly crazy issue (which, there really wasn't with JT) so if the Marlins had an identical offer on the table even I think he would've come back since there's no state income tax so he'd make more overall. But whatever, there is no valid reason Marte should not be on this team penciled in as the starting CF next season. None. Zero excuses here.
November 30, 20214 yr I know it's really crazy, but how about try to make a trade with the Mets for Starling ?
December 1, 20214 yr If the Mets is a fire pit then the Marlins is the one that push him into the fire pit …
