The Fire Kim Ng Thread

Extend Ng! This woman cares about this team and it was extremely obvious when she was running around the delta club on the Thursday game.

give her a long term deal

Maybe she should’ve been getting the game started instead of taking selfies with you!

It’s all your fault!

My friend took the picture so it wasn’t really a selfie tho

I honestly have this theory that selfies got so popular that years from now there will be a "new" trend of people posing for pictures taken by someone else.

I lost patience with her at some point last year too (not this thread), but what a turnaround this year.

She certainly deserves an extension now. Position by position, we have a bunch of players with value acquired by her for players who have little to no value right now.

Let’s clinch a playoff spot now plz.

In all seriousness cuz I know the clock joke is old... but the marked improvement in the first season after Kim was able to hire more of her own chosen people around her (both in the front office and on the field staff) and with the meddling Jeter and Denbo gone is something worth noting and applauding.

And Kim is a baseball and media favorite, the publicity that will come from this playoff berth will be grand.

What great optics!

I think hiring Oz Ocampo, who was with Houston, has helped a lot too.

Yea that's the big front office hire but the coaching staff has made a huge difference as well even if just from a mental and cultural standpoint.

My first post in this thread turned out to be the genius take that a lot of other people thought, as well.

It was all Mattingly’s fault.

Probably was a case of too many cooks in the kitchen and decisions weren’t being made.

I’m for extending Kim, and, with that said, she’s going to have a lot of work to do in the offseason again.

The team actually has a lot of question marks going into next year even though we have less now thanks to some moves she’s made (like acquiring Burger).

Going to be interesting to see what she can pull off next with Sandy injured going into next year & overall a young staff once again.

Defensive versatility is a question mark as well as most of our best hitters are guys who should be DH’s (Soler/Bell…are they both coming back?)

We also still need a SS as I think we’re currently getting lucky with Hampson. I expect Edwards (who is another Kim trade) to have more of an impact next year, but he’s also a guy that the organization doesn’t seem to want at SS for some reason, more of a 2B.

And then there is catcher, which is a position we haven’t been able to figure out in a long time even before Kim.

So it’ll be interesting, but, at this point, the decisions should be up to her.

Pulling the rope in different directions at the same time.

Absolutely. A lot of work to be done going into next year. She's gonna have to be real creative with the rotation.

If Sandy needs TJ would be nice if they do it now so possibly get him back after ASG

I'd like a new GM still. She still sucks at managing a roster in-season. She takes way too long to "evaluate" everything before finally making a call-ups etc and this team would likely already have clinched.

Give Oz a little more power there maybe I guess idk.

Oz as GM, Kim as Pres of Baseball Ops?

Either way those titles now drive me nuts cuz they don't matter as long as the hierarchy is still the same.

she's done well with trades but yeah, something really needs to be done with in-season roster mgmt because she's been utterly atrocious with that aspect for her entire tenure.  Clock starting jokes aside, the exact same pattern of ignoring the problem areas in-season that could be cured by callups has continued the entire time she's been here so that's 100% her.

If she just stopped taking so goddamn long to make moves she'd be a good GM but she's so awful at that roster mgmt...yeah. she's cost them wins and unfortunately she hasn't seem to learn how to get better at that piece since she's been here.

I also think we need more guys who take walks.

This team ranks 20th in OBP. It's not as bad as I thought we would be going into the year, but it's obviously still not ideal for us if we seriously want to contend going forward.

- Burger has been great with a .356 OBP since coming here, but he is a lifetime .309 OBP guy so I expect him to regress a bit next season.

- Arraez almost certainly won't hit over .350 again. I think what we saw from him in the second half is more of who he is; still really good obviously, but not the insane .400 clip we saw over the first few months.

- Sanchez takes some walks but he is too streaky and Jazz doesn't really walk much at all.

- The fact that Soler is starting to develop the reputation as an every other year guy also kind of scares me.

- I like DLC, but unless the rest of the lineup is really good, he should be a fourth OF.

There are definitely more pieces in place here than there were a year ago, but the offense still needs some obvious work, especially considering that both Soler and Bell can opt out. If we lose both of them we are kind of back to square one with not having enough power in the lineup. It would basically just be Burger and not much else.
