There shouldn't be a single GM employed by an MLB team that doesn't know her own players (Avisail & Soler), leaves the team down players for crazy long stretches, or just doesn't bother trying to work some trades at the deadline (self-admitted, again). These just aren't things a person needs 3+ years to be evaluated on - these are things a novice GM should be able to come in and do from day 1. On a job req listing these bare bones basics would be under "Requirements" not the "Preferred Requirements" category. I think the only explanation to this would be that Sherman trusts her and is confident enough to let her keep at it. Like a parent or a teacher or a coach saying "I know you can do this, get up and try again."

She's failed so far but there are many reasons why and there are also multiple ways she can right the ship. She's here and more seasons are coming and all we can hope for is improvement one way or another. Forget the clock thing, let's just get there. She's failed but also made some really nice trades. The Luzardo trade was great. The Groshans trade might be great. The De La Cruz one is whatever, everyone wants to hate on the Duvall trade (and probably rightfully so) but who cares really. Though that one looks real bad. All the other trades really are who cares. She hasnt actually made a really bad trade ( other than the said Duvall trade, which is somewhat minor). She should have moved Pablo, BUT she might have also fucked Cash which is funny. She also probably valued him higher and thats coming back to fuck her a little with his second half. Really if Pablo had waited to start being bad for 2 more weeks, she probably gets the value she wanted. If anything she has been way too cautious overall, which happens with a first time GM. Hopefully she gets more aggressive and hopefully that coincides with more money to spend, else its going to be a long ass process, that hopefully involves some better player development staff, because they morons they have had running the minor league system were woof woof (looking at Denbo, we can laugh all we want...BUT its not like she has had a chance to really replace that. Yet. And its not going to happen over night anyway). But ya she better make a damn solid hire for her on the field staff. and hitting a home run on her player development staff might be more useful. At this point she probably gets a C- But also knowing that the Garcia signing was probably on Jeter and the Soler one was on Sherman, but ya her not really knowing those players is either her not doing her homework OR sending a message to let her make those fucking decisions. End of day, if Sherman opens his wallet and dusts off the cobwebs, this franchise has a chance. Else, its going to be a few years, remember even the Rays took a while to build up what they have been doing. So we'll see.

September 14, 20224 yr I was one of her biggest supporters on here. If she doesn't deliver this offseason, I'll be done with her. This team needs a few clutch trades or signings. Sherman is an asshole and a complete detriment on the signings, but the trades are something she should be able to almost-fully control.
September 14, 20224 yr The big problem is that the one thing Kim probably has to do this offseason is the one thing she's completely been devoid of, and that's to show an urgency and an aggressive push. She needs one of those "we ain't playing around anymore" offseasons.

I don't think it's realistic, but hoped for. Those two can both be true simultaneously. I'm just tired of the sitting on her hands for seemingly everything....moves that should be made are obvious to everyone, but then moves are made one at a time, at a pace slower than a snail, so that all other secondary, tertiary, etc. moves disappear (players get signed/traded) because she took too long on the first move. 19 hours ago, pollythewog said: Judging Kim on 2 years as GM with one being during the pandemic. Get a grip folks Every other GM operated during the same timeframe, and they managed to make moves to better their teams. Being a GM during the pandemic is not an excuse. 15 hours ago, Das Texan said: Right. But yet you have people clamoring for her sacking when the real problem anyway is ownership so its a moot point in the end. Also thinking she'd get sacked after 2 years after making basically 0 consequential hires is failing to actually understand how the business of baseball works. This isnt akin to sacking the bench coach, hitting coach or something like that. No GM is getting fired after 2 years and making no consequential hires unless they do something horribly wrong outside of baseball. No clock is being reset, but no clock expires after 2 years for baseball related reasons only with the same ownership group. Seriously, get with it. Sure ownership is partially at fault, but I doubt ownership said "Garcia+Soler or nothing" with the money they did provide. Those redundant signings are on her. She definitely needs to show more urgency this offseason and make moves/signings (manager and players) that make an impact. Otherwise, her seat should be burning. 14 hours ago, SilverBullet said: I know part of it is a running gag now but are some too serious on this clock resetting concept? September 14, 20224 yr I'll say this... The trades last year for Alex Jackson and Peyton Henry shows just how little regard the organization had for Nick Fortes for whatever reason (at worst he is a quality backup catcher) and for whatever other catching depth they had, in some ways it was more about desperation for depth. I mean it was god awful last year, it still kinda is in the upper levels I guess. People are going to hate on the Marlins for the Jorge Alfaro being good now, but thats more on their hitting staff et al. He is still the same guy behind the plate, just with more offensive firepower unleashed. But how much of that is on the Marlins or on Alfaro just being less bad this year we will see. I"d rather see what he does in 2023 to make any judgment calls.

Thats not on her thats on a limitations of budget and an edict from ownership to spend to spite Jeter.

September 14, 20224 yr The issue with Garcia and Soler, I believe, is that the two signings were made when the front office had two different plans. Garcia was signed with the intention of being paired with a returning Marte. When Garcia came in there was no Soler in the plans. When Marte went to the Mets then Jeter targeted Castellanos and when that didn't happen Soler was the last option available. Too many cooks in the kitchen. This is why Kim needs to aggressively decide the next plan and act on it swiftly and stick to it. I don't think Garcia + Soler was ever the priority.

September 15, 20224 yr It's crazy that this team can't even steal a couple wins here and there. It's just the total shits now. Losing like 8 or 9 games out of ten. 100 losses is suddenly plausible just because they're so bad. Most of the worst teams will get a good game here and there, it's the nature of the game of baseball but still it feels like the Marlins just don't get that anymore. Wouldn't shock me if they don't even win another 5 games the rest of the way.
September 15, 20224 yr This offseason, trea turner should be priority numero uno if they were ballsy to put a Werth contract on the books - in particular with base stealing being easier than ever this upcoming season - guys who can get on base and who have speed should have some pretty damn good seasons. Good thing we have one of the slowest teams out there aside from Berti and Jazz. Edited September 15, 20224 yr by hovertical .

Sign Judge Sign Turner Sign Correa Fire Mattingly and the hitting instructors and hire new ones Trade Pablo and Cooper for Diego Cartaya from the Dodgers Trade Braxton, Will Banfield, Victor Mesa Jr. and Bleday for Bryan Reynolds Trade the established fans for prospect fans ???? Sherman profits anyways as the Marlins lose 87 games still

In my scenario, yes, we do keep Soler and Avi, but in that lineup, they're probably batting 6th and 7th, so it's not so bad. Trea SS - Jazz 2B - Judge LF - Correa 3B - Reynolds CF - Soler DH - Avi RF - Lewin 1B - Stallings/Fortes [Cartaya in 2024] C Yeah, that'll work. lol
