The Fire Kim Ng Thread

had he not gotten injured - you didn't like the Marte for Lizard trade?

- in hindsight we already know they weren't re-signing Marte now so he had to be traded for someone.

That move was good IMO since Marte would have been gone for nothing, there's 1. What else?

that's all i got dude.  I'm blown away that she doesn't even know the stats of FAs she signed and publicly makes an ass of herself by looking like an idiot on broadcasts.  That's all i need to know really.

Are ....... are we a playoff team with Michael Hill?

Something I thought I'd never say a few years ago.  I think I'd rather have Hill.

At least he showed in 2020 he was willing to help the team out and put it in a position to see, rather than leaving it with guys out for weeks on end with no help, like Ng has done.

I am still waiting for someone to provide a list of the positive moves she has made. Every time I ask, I'm either met with silence or some kind of debate breaks out about sexism.

I am struggling to think of good moves.

Sandy extension is about it.

I have a hard time counting this but I guess so. To me, that was a no-brainer move. She didn't trick him into accepting a certain amount and trying to extend him would be something 100% of GMs would do I'd imagine.

I get what you're saying.

But if we're going to have a legitimate discussion about her performance, you can't just ignore a positive because it's a "no-brainer".  She could've not done it, or could have screwed it up like with Marte by offering something so low he wouldn't take it......

I'm fully on the "she sucks at being a GM" bandwagon, but we can't ignore a good move just because it doesn't fit the "she sucks at being a GM" narrative.

Yep I'll count it.

So Sandy extension and Luzardo.  2 good moves. Any more?

that's all I got.  And the second, is only because she lowballed Marte so much he wouldn't re-sign.  So that's a 1/2 point.

Does the Luzardo one count?

It’s a good move thinking about the process, but results wise, Luzardo’s been rather average and mostly injured.

Also, I’m not sure the Marte thing was because of a lack of money considering they gave Garcia 4/54 so idk.

I doubt we’ll see Luzardo again this season for what it’s worth.

What I mean by this is that, not playing the result, the Jacob Stallings trade was a win too.

But we all see the result now and Jacob Stallings appears to be terrible.

Maybe it’s time to fire whoever is in charge of player development.

As a matter of fact, just fire everybody and start over.

Eh, those evaluating the pitching seem to have done well overall, at least on the drafting side.

Whoever is in charge of targeting FA relievers isn't any good.

And whoever is in charge of position players also isn't any good.

I think a half point for the Luzardo move is the best way to handle it. @rmc523 has the right idea.

Once he wasn't re-signing, it was a good move and better than letting him leave for nothing.

cough Gary Denbo, cough

I've been on that train for quite a while now thanks.

Forgive me, but what pitchers this regime has drafted has panned out to this point in the Majors on any consistent basis?

Rogers is the only one I can think of to this point and really other than first half of last year, its been not that great since then, tbh.

Aside from Rogers and maybe Garrett if he ever figures it out....

You have to go all teh way back to Jose Fernandez in 2011 to find a First round pick this franchise has made to find a guy that actually had any significant contributions for the Marlins.

YOu do have Heaney, Moran and Naylor mixed in but the Marlins traded all 3 for whatever in the process, so ya.

Its not been pretty.

But he would have re-signed and would have been a faaar better investment than either Soler or Avisail. Also, any time you can trade a guy at the deadline and then just get him right back in the off-season is a major coup. We could have pretty easily gotten both Marte and JT back and have a likely playoff contending team right now for not a ton more money than what is currently being shook from Sherman's murse.

To be fair, you don’t have to be drafted by an organization to be developed by an organization.

He said “evaluating” the pitching, and they have done fine there. Even though that was before the Kim Ng era began.

This is what he said:  Eh, those evaluating the pitching seem to have done well overall, at least on the drafting side.

So.... um ya that was where the draft references came from.

Fair enough.

I think they’ve mostly sucked with the draft too, but they’ve been fine acquiring and developing pitchers so it’s rather irrelevant in that case. It’s probably the only thing they haven’t done terrible.

The thing that sucks about these firing Donny and Ng threads is that it generally changes nothing...

Without buying or trading for better players...because I don't see a savior on the way...we are looking at inadequacy and irrelevancy for the next few years while Yanks and Mets fans ponder how they will gut our team for players.

So at that point...Who cares if they get fired?

1000% agree.  Trade him and resign him like the Yankees did with Chapman….if Kim had given him our final offer from the get-go in the offseason, he probably would have re-signed too.

I said drafting but meant an overall evaluation view, where they’ve done faaar better than identifying bay targets.

It would show that ownership (in the case of both) and the FO (in the case of Don) cares and are willing to make a change when things aren’t working.

clearly we need additional players, but our manager (and GM) are not getting the most out of the players we do have with stupid in-game decisions from Don, and bizarre days/weeks long absences of players playing short of players.

Jesus Sanchez

Jesus Aguilar

Garrett Cooper

Jon Berti

Richard Bleier

And several others that I'm forgetting at the moment... all of these players have tested positive for covid under Kim Ng's reign.
