Today's Mattingly Mistakes:

 

-Tanner Scott to start the 9th inning with clearly only one lefty due to bat in the first 3 batters (Tellez was an obvious pinch hit situation)

 

-Anthony Bender to pitch with the bases loaded and no outs

Im 100% disgusted with this season, with this team, this organization, and honestly just sick of MLB already (though that’s a topic for another day). Not because of the standings or the losses in and of themselves. I’m disgusted because the ONLY fucking job they had was to make the offense UNDENIABLY better and they fucked it royally. I can’t remember the last time there was a more rich free agent class with talent in pretty much any position they had a need. And yet, they sign Jorge Soler, and Avisail Garcia and bring back the same team that lost almost 100 games last year. We all knew this was gonna be the kind of team that they ended up with. They are worse this year than they were opening day 2021 but somehow we’re supposed to believe they got better. Duvall sucks overall but I’ll take him over Soler, and Garcia is infinitely worse than Marte. Fuck this already. I’m done man, I have no more in me. I went through this with Loria already and I’m just not doing it anymore.

i'm no longer bothered by the 1-run losses.  It's who they are.   I'm only nervous when it's tied.   The Marlins losing by a run is the natural order of things.

I feel at peace, this is as normal as breathing.

Why does this “new version” seem exactly the same?

Lets see. We lost because our offense and our bullpen failed us. If only it was obvious what issues this team had in the off-season.

when you only score 1 run, i can't put too much blame on the pen for giving up just a single run to lose a game 2-1.  This team's major issue has and will continue to be their abundance of shitty hitters that make up the bulk of the lineup.  They do need a top tier closer though for sure.  the other innings are mostly fine but nobody on this team seems to be able to handle the 9th inning.

I know we keep saying it over and over maybe in hopes that it'll make it true but i think deep down we all know Ng and Sherman are literally going to do absolutely nothing to make this a better team.  It's mid-May and the aura around this team just stinks and it feels like it's pointless in watching because we all know the outcome of this year already - 85-88 losses or so.

I have an idea.

Let's go with Openers.

For example.

Bender, Scott, Sulser get the first three innings. After this, Sandy comes in and shuts the other team down for six innings.

Bass, Poteet [2 innings] get the first three. Pablo comes in and shuts the other team down for six innings.

And so on.

Though we needed a closer, in general, you're right - can't expect...or rather require....the bullpen to be perfect every night in order to remotely have a chance to win.
