I thought he was much better than Avi offensively for sure and I wish they had just signed Soler as the DH (out of those two anyway).

For 2022 it's just an excuse but for 2023 at least with Soler it might be true. We shall see.

They absolutely can't rely on that alone though. They need to have multiple backup plans for injuries.

Soler had a .250 babip, so not sure where that other .225 or whatever average comes into play

No, but I was the PA announcer at American Heritage for like 3 years. 

Got to watch Casas, Mark Vientos & soon to be prospect, Enrique Bradfield, a lot. 

Casas was a very good hitter in high school obviously, and I think he wouldn’t be a bust like some of the hitters we’ve acquired in the past. He has an advanced approach at the plate, and already showed it in limited time last year. 
 

Edit: Also, we should’ve drafted him in 2018. I remember posting it in our 2018 draft thread because 1) I was super biased, but also 2) because he can really hit.

My take on this is that I’d be ok with those numbers if they weren’t all coming in meaningless situations.

Players probably shouldn’t be evaluated this way from one year to the next, but Soler was at his absolute best in low leverage situations that meant absolutely nothing last year.

Uff I’d be all for that, but no way the Sox trade him (barring a Eury/Sandy level overpay which shouldn’t happen). As of now he’s a cornerstone player in their mind.

I would never forgive them for not acquire Jose Abreu or why we have to forgive them !?

If I'm the owner I would think it's really lucky to have Abreu available in this off-season because he's the best FA hitter this team affordable, then I would think it's really very lucky have no crazy spending teams involved then I would offering him the best contract he received to acquire him, if the Mets or other big spending teams involved then it's even impossible to acquire him with 3/60.

It would’ve been nice to sign Abreu but it isn’t the end of the world or that big of a deal.
