The Pirates announced Thursday that Derek Shelton has been relieved of his duties as manager, a shake-up that had become expected in recent weeks as the team fell further back in the National League Central.

Shelton finished with a record of 306-440 in his five-plus years as the Pirates’ skipper. Bench coach and former Marlin Don Kelly has been named the club’s new manager.

Had to look him up as I did not remember him. Doubt many do, he had 2 at bats as a Marlins and was 0-2.

i remember him playing for the Tigers and then we had him. i thought he had a few more ab's than 2 but not many. I want to say he got injured or something but i might not be remembering correctly on that piece.

Wasn't it in like 2013 or something - one of those random years where we had all the retreads.

And another one........

The Rockies announced on Sunday that they have relieved Bud Black of his duties as manager and Marlins legend 😁Mike Redmond of his duties as bench coach

Bud Black fired by Rockies

Rockies ownership may be worse than ours.

At least we know we're rebuilding every few years. Their ownership tries to pretend they're competing yearly while doing nothing either way (add or rebuild)

Don Kelly had 2 ABs in 2015 for the Marlins before being injured and out for the season but did return for 13 games and 27 ABs in July of 2016.

Ah, I had the years wrong, I knew it was somewhere in the "orange" years.

I stand corrected.

Rockies are in another league if ineptitude for mismanagement

@Rydawg 's house has a swing available. Just wipe it down first.

I'll sell it to you but it costs more with swamp ass on it. It's an authentic experience. LOL

Managers get way too much credit when their team wins but on the flip side they get all the blame and usually are the first ones on the chopping block when the team performs poorly.

Great example I like to make is… put any MLB manager on the 2025 Dodgers to manage the team and guess what they are still gonna make the playoffs and possibly World Series. Then take Dave Roberts and put him to manage the 2025 Marlins and at this point in the season they are at best still 5 games under .500.

I know I get the arguments about how certain managers have a certain style and take into consideration stats and Sabermetrics etc.

But at the end of the day it’s not really that complicated to see a basic cause-effect relationship with MLB teams.

Let’s see.. put Freddie Freeman, Shohei Otani and all the rest of the Dodgers roster on the field and any manager even a single A manager with 2 years experience and that team is still making the playoffs almost like clockwork. 😂

But always the managers the first one to go and always the first ones to get all the credit when the team does well. How about the Marlins sign some good players and make their current manager look like a genius! 😂

Brandon Hyde fired by Orioles

Any predictions who's next?

There is currently only one manager who has been with his team for more than 1 year and whose team is more than 5 games under .500. Any guesses who?

I will note that he probably won't get fired.

Braves?

(I guessed, as I haven't looked up their record in a while, but I know they started poorly, and Snitker has been there a while now).

The Braves are actually .500 now, surprisingly(?)

I'm going to guess Angels because I have no idea how long Wash has been there
