5/11/2008 Marlins at Nationals 1:35PM EDT
Just came in to say those of you who ever thought of trading Uggla or still wanna trade him just to see Andino play for a whole year, have lost your freakin minds. I know his avg. is crappy, but who needs a good avg. when you can get clutch hits. Walks + Extra bases more than compensate for his BA. Which is a very respectable avg none the less. At .279 right now.

As crappy as Olsen has pitched he's just at 53 pitches through 5.

Now that Hanley is (theoretically) signed
Truth is neither Willingham or Jake should be long term solutions for this team. No matter how much we love them.

Things to make this team better
Our Marlins have been outstanding so far but they can improve so much yet Adding a healthy Anibal to the rotation will solidify this rotation tenfolds. Dallas McP looks like he is ready for a callup already Placing him at 3rd and putting Cantu in a platoon with Jake will be a defensive upgrade that will give a little more stability to both 1st and 3rd. CF still needs to work itself out either by the return of ADA or by giving Carroll a chance to take it over, or in best scenario Mayybin showing the maturity of a MLB player. I can't wait for Volsted and company to be called up in September Cantu has 6 hits and 2 homers in his last three games and he's been much better defensively. Calling up McPherson who is putting up inflated numbers in the PCL and who is currently playing in the outfield probably because of his horrifying defensive numbers as a 3B shouldn't even be considered right now. He's not playing the outfield. For some reason they have him listed as an OF but he hasn't played a game in the OF this year.

Miguel Cabrera misses the Marlins
I miss him too.... I love our team though.

Chris Volstad
His velocity never grew with him filling out. Now most scouts think he'll just be solid 4/5 innings eater. He's has never been unhittable at any level. If you look at his k/9 and h/9 they are no where near an elite prospects. And even with his good control, he's never been able to crack a sub-1.30 whip at any level with a considerable amount of innings. His 75 IP in AA is like a 1.15 whip at this point (guesstimating), including him obliterating people tonight. He's coming into his own. He has been young at every level, which is very notable compared to his (and the rest of those young starters) success. Your facts are totally wrong. What scouts say is he is the 40thish best prospect overall in baseball. A 3rd starter, is the lowe (pun intended! And how appropriate he pitched tonight). It is doubtful he will be Webb because he is just flat out amazing, but Volstad could very very easily turn into "Brad Radke without the crazy HR numbers," which is an incredible pitcher. I can't wait for him to come up this summer and be a rock in the rotation for years. This dude ain't Jeremy Sowers. I agree with you in un-quoted sections that Miller has more upside and should be the better pitcher when all is said and done because he has the pure stuff, but Volstad is not a chump. If you want to talk 4/5, let's talk Gaby Hernandez and Aaron Thompson. Let's keep Volstad out of that discussion. Dude his last full season he gave up 26 more hits than innings pitched. don't get me wrong, a 40th best pitcher in the minor leagues would most likely project into a solid # 3/4 starter. But elite? Maybe elite is relative but I would see elite as Cueto, Miller, McGee, ect. Yes, he was young at all levels, but he hasn't really thrown up any surprising numbers over a long haul that would lead me to believe he will blow anyone away in the majors. Let's not include Cueto in elite prospect talks. Yeah, he is doing pretty well, but he was not considered the elite prospect, that was supposed to be Homer Bailey. The fact that Cueto wasn't considered an elite prospect yet Homer Bailey and Andrew MIller are kind of shows how even top prospect lists are crapshoots. Alot of people had Cueto as an elite prospect.

Spooneybarger!!!
Orioles Sign Tim Spooneybarger From BaseballAmerica: Baltimore Orioles Signed: RHP Tim Spooneybarger (hasn?t played since 2005) Spooneybarger, a Braves draft-and-follow from 1998, seemed destined for middle-relief success, but he couldn?t quite replicate his minor league results in the majors. Oh, and two Tommy John surgeries didn?t help. Spooneybarger, one of the pitchers acquired by Florida for the Braves? taking Mike Hampton off their hands, hasn?t pitched professionally since 2005, when he spent a mere four games in the Marlins system. Good for him. I hope he makes it back.

It wont matter since Nolasco will be starting his next time around the rotation anyways.

Fredi Focusing on Defense
OMG HOW CAN YOU LEAVE THE BEST PAT OF THE ARTICLE OUT???????????????? That's as good a place to start as any with the Marlins, who made 137 errors last season. The Marlins didn't just make errors, they had some Bad News Bears moments. The Herlad writers are clearly comming to the site and stealing Miamibaseball's thunder.

Dallas McPherson signed
The only bad part about this signing (in my opinion) is that if he turns out to be a soild major leaguer in '08, (and that's a big "if") he'll be gone after season's end, because he'll be a FA since he only signed a 1 year contract worth league minimum. And with Scott Boras as his agent, you KNOW he'll sign for big bucks. But then again, if McPherson completely sucks, then at least we don't have to have him hanging around for 3 or 4 years No he wont. He signed a 1-year deal just like Mitre, Gregg, Treanor, and Amezaga. He's still under the Marlins control until 2012.

Dallas McPherson signed
Dallas on the 40-man roster and Chris Seddon DFA. With Dallas out of options if healthy he's pretty much guaranteed a spot on the 25-man maybe even the 3b job.

Ricky Williams Contract Renewed
Ricky's contract renewed Bill Parcells apparently has reached out to at least one player whose Dolphins future appears in doubt -- Ricky Williams. Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, wrote in an e-mail to The Miami Herald that Williams received a letter from the Dolphins dated Dec. 31 and signed by Parcells renewing Williams' contract for 2008. Steinberg wrote that he will wait until Parcells has a chance to settle in with the Dolphins before contacting him. Steinberg also wrote that Williams is doing well in his rehabilitation from a torn pectoral muscle that ended his 2007 season after six carries against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 26. Such a letter would seem to indicate that Parcells wants Williams back next season. That is not surprising from a practical perspective. There is no certainty how soon -- or if -- Ronnie Brown will recover from a torn knee ligament that ended his season as he was piling up 100-yard rushing games at 5.0 yards a carry. Even if Brown recovers fully, having a healthy Williams would give the Dolphins the kind of two-back tandem that is popular in the NFL. Also, if Williams can shake off the rust of being a 31-year-old who has played 12-plus games in the past four seasons, it would give the Dolphins another asset they could trade. New Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland doesn't have a track record as far as trade tendencies, but his direct boss is well-known for being willing to deal, and he might encourage Ireland in that direction. Williams is set to make $730,000 next season, hardly expensive for a running back playing well. Twice recently, Parcells made statements that seemed to preclude Williams rejoining the Dolphins. At his introductory media session last Thursday, Parcells said: ``I'm interested in good-character people. I don't want thugs and hoodlums on the team. I really don't. I don't want bad-character guys. I don't want problem children. I'm more willing to let someone else try to address those things with other people.'' On Monday, Parcells spoke to the Virginia Tech team, in town for the Orange Bowl: ``I'm not looking for any dope heads, lazy guys. I'm looking for football players.'' There's no record of anyone who has met Williams accusing him of being a thug or a hoodlum. In fact, he is shy and polite, and many people from across a massive economic and ethnic range find him an interesting conversationalist -- particularly if the topic isn't football. Teammates have all but sung praises to Williams' work ethic. Brown has credited Williams' diligent example in 2005 for helping him understand what it took to be a professional. Williams' substance-abuse issues with marijuana -- multiple failed drug tests leading to his 2004 ''retirement'' and his suspension for the 2006 season -- would seem to throw him into the ''problem child'' category. But it also should be noted that Parcells spent 10 seasons with the Giants -- two as a defensive coordinator and eight as head coach -- benefiting from Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor's game-transforming greatness on the field and dealing with Taylor's substance-abuse problems off the field. Link Awsome.

Miami Dolphins and the #1 overall draft pick
If we keep the #1 pick and draft someone other than DMac or Dorsey, it'll rival last year's draft in stupid. I see alot of predictions with the Dolphins taking Dorsey with the #1 pick but he doesnt fit the defense Parcells guys are going to want to run. He's not a 3-4 NT and Chris Long is the better prospect as a 3-4 DE.

Miami Dolphins and the #1 overall draft pick
If they keep the #1 overall pick I would love Vernon Gholston. Jason Taylor would likely be traded but Gholston would be an awsome OLB in a 3-4 defense. After the combine this guy is going to shoot up on teams draft board.

Jeff Ireland
I'm really loving the Ireland hire. I hope he is given final say with the draft. BTW, beef, I didn't hear the entire show, but is it true that the Sparano rumor came from someone on the Lebatard show saying he overhead Bill and Wayne talking about him and how he would be the next coach?? Yeah thats what Leby said. He also P*ssy'd out of a bar fight...

Bring in Dallas!!!

Miami Dolphins and the #1 overall draft pick
I'd trade the number 1 overall to Dallas for both of their two number 1's (22nd overall and likely 31st overall) and a 2nd and another pick for the 2009 draft. Edit: NFL Draft Trade Value Chart According to the NFL Draft trade value chart the #1 overall pick is worth 3000. The number 22 is worth 780 and 31 is worth 600 (equals 1380) Now add 95th overall in round 2 which is valued at 120 (Now equals 1500). Dallas would have to add their 2009 1st rounder and another 3rd or 4th to get proper value. Luckily for the Phins Jerry Jones (who went to Arkansas) is enamored with Darren McFadden so I think there is a possibility of a trade with Dallas.
