July 13 -- Houston Astros vs. Florida Marlins, 7:05 PM EST
Hanley Uggla Jacobs Cabs Willingham Hermida Olivo Reggie Willis I don't think that's the line-up, I haven't found it posted anywhere official yet where it usually is. I think it's what FeLo wants.

Phil Garner is an idiot
I know for a fact Cabrera let that ball get by him so he'd have a shot at seeing a plate appearance. Speak to him after the game did you? What a stupid statement.

Marlins talk on Around The Horn
Michael Smith: Miguel Cabrera is the best 3rd baseman in baseball... :plain I love Miggy but even I think that's a stretch...

2006 NL/ AL closer rankings
You may have done it on a points system, but with all due respect, your points system is stupid. How can you have JJ Putz ahead of Jonathon freaking Papelbon?! He's had like 2 earned runs ALL YEAR! And I agree with Bryan, the top three - although I'd add Joe Nathan and probably Bobby Jenks in there as well - are ahead of the rest in the AL. In the NL... there really isn't a lights out closer anymore.
- ok...

Surprise....Surprise....
I still think Wood's future is as a closer due to his limited arm strength. And he would make a filthy one, too.

im glad u guys love my topic title
How are we disheartening? We've achieved more than most thought possible considering our roster. We've had some disheartening losses, but we are NOT a disheartening team. The Royals... now there's a disheartening team.

Travis Hafner sets major league record
Indians' Hafner hits fifth grand slam July 7, 2006 CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cleveland Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner became the first player in major league history to hit five grand slams before the All-Star break when he connected in the second inning against Baltimore on Friday night. Hafner homered off Kris Benson to give the Indians a 6-0 lead. It also broke the club record for grand slams in a season that Hafner shared with Al Rosen, who hit four in 1951. The 29-year-old Hafner is the fourth player to hit five grand slams in a season. Don Mattingly of the New York Yankees set the major league record with six in 1987. Jim Gentile of the Baltimore Orioles (1961) and Ernie Banks of the Chicago Cubs (1955) both hit five. Hafner, who was not selected to play in next week's All-Star game in Pittsburgh despite being one of the finalists for the last spot on the AL roster, is 7-for-10 with five homers and 25 RBIs with the bases loaded this season. He entered Friday's game hitting .319 with 24 homers and 70 RBIs. Lou Gehrig (1934), Sid Gordon (1950), Gentile (1961) and Jim Northrup (1968) all hit four grand slams before the All-Star break. Link -------- :notworthy Unbelievable. How did he not make the All Star team again?!

The Player to Watch? FLA: C Miguel Olivo (AVG .291 | HR 9 | RBI 34 | OBP .321 | SLG .492) Catcher Miguel Olivo is hitting .294 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs. :lol Olivo won't start because Treanor catches lefties. P.S - If you wrote that yourself I don't mean any disrespect, I just found it funny.

Pedro to DL, Pelfrey to start vs Marlins Saturday
While it's good not to have to face Pedro, I'm wary of Pelfrey. Not just because of how good he supposedly is, but because this is a game this team could lose, against a debuting rookie.

Carlos Martinez's season officially over
Elbow surgery will end Martinez's season By Juan C. Rodriguez South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted July 6 2006 WASHINGTON -- Carlos Martinez's season is over. As the Marlins feared, the right-hander needs Tommy John surgery. Dr. James Andrews, who examined Martinez on Wednesday, will perform the operation today in Birmingham, Ala. Martinez won't begin a throwing program until November and likely won't be back until several weeks into the 2007 season. It's a disappointing outcome to what began as a promising rookie season for Martinez. Utilizing a mid-90s fastball and good slider, Martinez made the team out of spring training and became one of the Marlins' setup men. Before this season he had totaled three innings above high-Class A. Martinez was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA, five walks and nine strikeouts in six games (62/3 innings) before an elbow strain landed him on the disabled list. He returned June 4 and made six more appearances before the problem resurfaced June 22 at Baltimore. Link: Sun Sentinel Hopefully he'll make a full return next year without any complications.

Vargas recalled, Pinto demoted
Even though Pinto immediately gave up four, seventh-inning runs, he received his first career save by completing the final three innings. His next one won't come for a while. After the game, the Marlins optioned Pinto to Triple A Albuquerque (N.M.) and recalled left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas from the Isotopes. Source: Miami Herald I guess with the double header coming up Joe wants a fresh long reliever... well I hope so anyway, I hope he doesn't start. I just really hope he's recovered from his injury and has improved from the start of the year, because early on he was pretty ordinary.

Renyel Pinto
so with Pinto pitching three innings tonight...is he still on for the DH on saturday? I don't think he ever was to be honest. Sanchez is tomorrow. Willis is Friday. JJ and Nolasco will probably go the DH.

[i think the voting needs to be taken out of the fans and manager's hands. Then who would vote? I agree it should be taken out of the fans' hands though.

2006 All-Star Game Selection Show
Beckett and Schilling don't make the team but Mark Redman does?!? What a joke. This is why I hate the "every team must be represented" rule.
