  1. do nolasco, vargas, jacobs for baldelli and than do Anderson for Andino, put him in LF and Willy at first. Or sign a cheap OF and send Andino for a pen arm. I prefer the first. Go out and get at least one dependable arm via FA.
  2. have fun in the booth manager of the year whatever :lol
  3. Another legit question: If signed (still a big if in my mind), who do we call up / use to pinch run for Bonds when he gets on base? Legit alright :lol eric reed
  4. if we signed bonds, we'd be fine with him not playing everyday if we re-signed helms. williy would go back to LF those days and Wes would be at first.
  5. WASHINGTON -- The government believes Fidel Castro's health is deteriorating and that the Cuban dictator is unlikely to live through 2007. That dire view was reinforced last week when Cuba's foreign minister backed away from his prediction the ailing Castro would return to power by early December. ``It's a subject on which I don't want to speculate,'' Felipe Perez Roque told The Associated Press in Havana. U.S. government officials say there is still some mystery about Castro's diagnosis, his treatment and how he is responding. But these officials believe the 80-year-old leader has cancer of the stomach, colon or pancreas. He was seen weakened and thinner in official state photos released late last month, and it is considered unlikely that he will return to power or survive through the end of next year, said the U.S. government and defense officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the politically sensitive topic. With chemotherapy, Castro may live up to 18 months, said the defense official. Without it, expected survival would drop to three months to eight months. American officials will not talk publicly about how they glean clues to Castro's health. But U.S. spy agencies include physicians who study pictures, video, public statements and other information coming out of Cuba. A planned celebration of Castro's 80th birthday next month is expected to draw international attention. The Cuban leader had planned to attend the public event, which already had been postponed once from his Aug. 13 birthday.
  6. Miami defensive end Bryan Pata was shot and killed Tuesday night, shortly after leaving the practice field, according to a university official with knowledge of the situation. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement was still being prepared by the university, had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Pata's death. Miami-Dade police refused to release specific information about what happened. . http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/sou...-home-headlines
  7. What are Travis Bowyer's chances of making the team next year, and is his shoulder injury healing? -- Tonya M., Andover, Minn. The shoulder problem that forced Bowyer out for the entire 2006 season required surgery. The hard-throwing reliever is expected to miss all of next year.
  8. I don't hate the rule. Whining has become an epidemic in the NBA, and it's all completely pointless. Now if they would just institute a technical foul for flopping, we'd be in business. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy AMEN

  11. Compton said Lidle's wife, Melanie, and their 6-year-old son Christopher had left New York for Los Angeles before the accident, and likely had no way of learning of the news. According to Compton, a priest planned to meet the flight at Los Angeles International Airport and break the news to Melanie Lidle that her life is forever changed. :confused
  12. that's dumb. how is it torrie's fault that the "greatest lineup ever" could not score, that the 200 million payroll team had no better option than Jarett Wright in an elimination game and had no bullpen? that sounds like the GM to me.... scarry that a team with such a high payroll could have so many flaws

  14. Tosca leaves Diamondbacks for Marlins Nick Piecoro The Arizona Republic Oct. 7, 2006 12:00 AM The Diamondbacks are still without a replacement for former bench coach Jay Bell. That's because the man they had tabbed as Bell's successor, Carlos Tosca, informed the Diamondbacks on Friday that he was accepting the same position with the Florida Marlins. Tosca, who spent the past two seasons as manager Bob Melvin's third base coach, is said to have been a mentor to new Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez. advertisement The Diamondbacks could have denied Tosca the opportunity to interview but didn't. "We could have stood in the way," General Manager Josh Byrnes said, "but we decided that's not really the right thing to do." Chip Hale seems to be a candidate to become bench coach. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...dbacks1008.html

  17. Woohoo They've said numerous times that they want to do a rebuilding plan, so when you're looking at a 4 or 5 year target period to start winning again, it's hard to bring Frank back. And if you're expecting to win now, it's even harder yea, he's one of the few managers worse than joe

  23. Notes: Johnson likely done for year Rookie of the Year candidate has strain in his right forearm By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Marlins rookie Josh Johnson has a right forearm strain, and in all likelihood, the right-hander will not pitch again this season. Johnson, who has the fourth-best ERA in the National League, returned to South Florida on Tuesday and an MRI exam revealed the strain. Johnson experienced stiffness in his right forearm during a Sept. 12 start against the Mets at Dolphin Stadium. That game was halted 1 hour, 22 minutes because of rain. The 6-foot-7 right-hander threw 17 pitches before rain halted play in the second inning. After that long delay, he threw 56 more pitches and was lifted after five innings on a night he didn't give up a run and scattered three hits. "If there is a little strain, he won't pitch at all the rest of the year," manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday. "He played catch [on Monday] and he still felt a little stiff, so I'm not going to start him [saturday]. It's not worth it." Brian Moehler, who filled Johnson's rotation spot in Monday's 4-0 loss to the Mets at Shea Stadium, now will start on Saturday at Philadelphia. Johnson tried to have a light catch on Monday, but his forearm didn't loosen up. An MRI was taken to see the extent of the discomfort. Initially, the team said Johnson was bothered by a cramp in the muscle of the forearm. Johnson is expected to rejoin the team in New York on Wednesday. "He's frustrated because he wants to pitch," Girardi said. Johnson is an NL Rookie of the Year candidate. The Tulsa, Okla., native is 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA. His ERA is fifth overall in the Major Leagues. He has logged 157 innings, and to rank among the league leaders in ERA, he would have to throw at least 162 innings. Johnson has appeared in 31 games with 24 starts. He opened the season working out of the bullpen. About the time he joined the rotation is when the Marlins began to show tremendous improvement as a team. As a starter, Johnson is 11-5 with a 3.03 ERA, throwing 145 1/3 innings. great, more moehler
