Tonight's Starting Lineups (09/19/2006)
Olsen is gonna dominate. I'll go ahead and predict the CG, I won't risk jinxing anything more than that.

What are you looking forward to in 2007?
Not having to deal with brian moehler, randy messenger, reggie abercrombie, matt herges, chris resop, and jobo. BINGO! I kinda like Resop though.

Marlins contract status
Our "young" players are basically ours for whatever price we feel right until after 2009. There is a minimum. There's a minimum but the Marlins are not obligated to hand out anything extra until a guy hits arbitration. Cabrera's up this year isn't he? That will be a big raise. D-train might lose some money on his next contract.

Is it safe to say we are done for?
yes. it's over. :banghead

Holy crap...
When you score 4 in extra's you gotta assume it's in the bag. That was trash.

Lets go fish!!! Get 'em Rick! Have you guys heard Ron Gant call our games against Atlanta? I think he wants to make babies with our rotation... odd.

Top Rookies for MLB this year
don't see why fielder is in front of willingham they have the same HR/RBI's but willy has the better average From a defensive standpoint I don't think Willingham is as good as Fielder. Fielder is quite the athlete for such a round guy. So with other stats nearly equivalent, i'd give Prince the nod.

Bert Blyleven drops f-bombs live.
I saw the post of Jim Edmonds' situation and wasn't sure if you guys had seen Blyleven's tape. It's also not for kids, or work, or church, you get the drift. LINK

Reggie Bush and family accepted improper benefits while at USC
I'm not saying that it happens to such a degree, but every star D1 athlete gets things for free that they shouldn't be getting. If the NCAA tried hard enough, they could probably disqualify every team that won an NCAA title in football, baseball, and basketball for the last 15 years.

So I was in Chicago last weekend...
ALL stadium tours are the sh*t. Especially the Pro Player tour :thumbup :thumbup They show you the dungeon where John Boles is kept. LMFAO!

Catcher for next year.
I was definitely not a big fan of Olivo at the start of the season, but he has become somewhat of an acquired taste. I still feel that he doesn't call a great game, but he's gotten into a rhythm with the majority of the staff. Treanor handles a pitcher better, and unlike Olivo he has enough sense to know which way a breaking ball thrown by a lefthander is going to move. Unfortunately Treanor's bat is a huge liability, not that Olivo's is outstanding. I often consider Olivo's at bat over if he doesn't crush the first pitch. After all of that, I don't think there's anything out there that will bump Olivo out of the spot that is his to lose for next season. This is what I've found as the potentially available catchers this offseason (free agents) along with their VORP (value over replacement player, as computed by Baseball Prospectus): Javy Lopez...-5.6 Doug Mirabelli...-7.5 Chris Widger...-5.9 Mike Redmond...6.4 Jorge Posada...30.6 (club option) Gregg Zaun...13.7 Henry Blanco...3.8 Damian Miller...1.6 (mutual option) Mike Lieberthal...4.5 For camparison Miguel Olivo...4.8 So Jorge Posada is better, but won't get passed up on that option. Gregg Zaun is pretty good, but he'll be 36 next year and is projected to hit .259 w/ 6 homers...screw that. Mike Redmond will also be 36 with even worse projections. Do you guys want Mike Redmond or will Olivo do?

Miguel Cabrera
"clutch" is kind of hard to quantify. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but it's pretty open to personal interpretation. Miggy's leading the league in average the last time I checked, so I'd rather have him at the dish than anyone else, regardless of how clutch he's been lately. I haven't tried to look up how many times he's K'd lately to close out games, but still, he's the guy I want to see with a bat in his hands.

Is it safe to say we are done for?
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Baseball Prospectus gives the Marlins a 7.4% chance of making the postseason. (as of Sept. 11, i'm sure it's worse now) So there's a snowball's chance in hell still out there. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5509 (might require subscription)

So I was in Chicago last weekend...
I took a tour of Wrigley Field last friday, while the team was in Atlanta I believe. Long story short; if you get the opportunity it's well worth the $20. They take you through all seating areas, luxury boxes, press box, "batter's eye" restaurant, on the field and through both dugouts and locker rooms. A tour guide gives a detailed history of the park and answers any questions that you may have. Lasted about an hour and a half. Pretty cool deal. :thumbup

Miguel Cabrera
That Billy Wagner guy has some pretty good stuff. Chris Aguila sure thought so The ball that Aguila hit almost knocked him down. Almost looked like a Ronnie Cedeno swing.

ESPN Review The Replay
Why in the world with 2 outs with a no-no going would the ump call him safe? Agreed. That ump wants to get to the spread, or the bar, or wherever ASAP. Game was over regardless.

Wood Tops List of 'Topes Call-Ups
I hope we get some big lead situations so we can have a good look at the young pitcher we called up, Garcia.

Just a fun question.
Reggie Abercrombie. His time would be better spent in the batting cage, but he has an awesome personality. He's hilarious.

Does This Team Remind You Of "Major League'?
Franklyn German had Cerrano down. If they had hired Bob Euker for the broadcast team I would have died laughing.
