  1. Not a good night so far. Not unsalvagable yet, but not good.
  2. Really not liking McCann tonight. :banghead
  3. Damn Rick, stop beaning guys just because they're on my fantasy team!
  4. I'm blind over here, was that a nice play at the plate or what?
  5. Let's go Rick! Dominate the Braves! Game's not on TV for me (not sure if you guys are getting it in FL) so i'll be glued to MLB audio and this thread. Go Fish!!! :plaindance Anybody have a password for MLB.tv I can use? I just have audio that Rick paid for. (I'm super cheap)
  6. Damn shame. Very knowledgeable about the game and always a pleasure to listen to. I wonder if this is a Harold Reynolds type of incident that got him fired? Call me stupid, but what's that in reference to? I guess I missed whatever Harold Reynolds did....
  7. Dodgers vs Mets Penny = Glavine Lowe < Trachsel Maddux < Pedro Billingsley ? Maine That was typed while wearing a Dodgers hat. I'm giving Penny the benefit of the doubt regarding health/stamina, and i'm really not a big fan of Billingsley. I love Maddux to death but he can't compete with Pedro when both are on their game. Hopefully he gives us a win today though.

A couple of nice CF's in the mix. Some quality starters will be on the move it appears.
  9. CP - Borowski SU - Tank MR - Kensing MR - Martinez MR - Resop MR - Petit LR - Pinto Messenger and Mitre won't be back IMO. I can't wait for Carlos Martinez to be back, hope he's not affected long term. I think we keep Borowski for another year, he better not be expecting a raise though. I've never seen some of the young guys that the rest of you are high on, I hope to see some hot competition in the spring. What happened to German?? Why did we let him go?
  10. Short term goal: take the season series from the Braves. Long term goal: get to .500. (not going to be easy)
  11. I'm a Dodger fan, have been all my life, always will be, but the Dodgers are not better than the Mets. The Dodgers' pen is trash and the Mets have more weapons on offense. The Dodgers did make some outstanding deadline deals and get hot enough to make the playoffs, but they're going to lose to the Mets in the playoffs (first round if they can't lock up home field advantage.)
  12. Some Angels players got suspended for that one too, Angels second baseman Adam Kennedy and relievers Kevin Gregg and Brendan Donnelly were each suspended for four games, along with manager Mike Scioscia (three games) and bench coach Ron Roenicke (one game). I had heard that John Lackey got a suspension too, but I guess not. That was a pretty good brawl. Still had nothing on Nolan Ryan putting Robin Ventura in a headlock and throwing 103 mph fists into his face. :notworthy
  13. Grudzielanek is garbage. I can't believe he's still in the league, let alone making that much money. :thumbdown :banghead
  14. Beltran wins it over Howard simply because of the standings. Ryan Howard is absolutely sick with the stick though.
  15. Ripken wins. I wore 8 in little league through college because he was my idol. Such a strong work ethic, has done a ton for the community, and an overall likeable guy.
  16. It's not clear to me how this is being judged. Probably well over 50% of the people in Boston right now weren't even alive when Ted Williams was playing. It would be weird, then, if he were their hero. Without any sort of objective criteria on which to judge, I have to go with a player who's more modern...someone who's at least played in the last 40 years. In fact, if Big Papi were on here, I'd probably go with him. Too many people hate Clemens still for me to choose him. So...yeah, I'm going with Jim Rice. I may have the totally wrong idea about this contest, but whatever... I agree with the objectivity related to never having seen the guy play, but the man hit .406 at 22 years of age. Look at his lines from 1941 and 1942. (He also led the league in RBI's as a rookie in 1939.) Year .Ag Tm ..Lg .G... AB ...R ....H ..2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO ..BA .OBP ..SLG 1941 22 BOS AL 143 456 135 185 33 3 37 120. 2.. 4 147 27 .406 .553 .735 (first to hit .400) 1942 23 BOS AL 150 522 141 186 34 5 36 137. 3.. 2 145 51 .356 .499 .648 (won triple crown) Imagine how much better his career stats would have been if WWII hadn't been going on during his mid 20's. Remember that they didn't play from 1943-1945 because of the war, and he wasn't sitting at home reading about the war in the newspaper, he became a Navy/Marine Corps aviator. After the war he came back to the Red Sox in 1946, leading them to the world series and winning the MVP. In other words, he wins this award hands down. If Ted Williams is not a hero, I don't know who is. More on Ted Williams
  17. God bless that family.
  18. I wouldn't pitch to him if first was open either. Watching that guy take BP gives me a chubby.
  19. Additional dumb statistic: Ricky Nolasco is 5-0 when I wear my Marlins hat to school and put it in my fruit bowl at home before the first pitch is thrown. :mischief2
  20. I voted for Ricky because he's my brother in law, JJ and Uggla are having better seasons in all reality, but a Dodger is going to win ROY.
  21. He's got the stats to contend for Rookie of the Year, as does Dan Uggla IMO, but how is that decided? Is it a media vote, players vote, coaches vote, combination? I can't believe I don't know this....
  22. I don't want Soriano, and many smart fans wouldn't either. If the Marlins get him he'll just be traded for grade A draft picks if you know what I mean. Main reason why he didn't last with Washington was because he didn't want to change positions, what makes you think he would want to move to CF? Even though he is currently playing there for the nationals doesn't mean he wants to go elsewhere to do it, I don't want to move Uggla!! He's playing LF unless my eyes are playing tricks on me again, and leading the league in outfield assists unless my ears are up to their old tricks. I'm not saying he plays a nice LF, but he does have a hell of an arm and a hell of a bat. The Marlins can absolutely afford to pay him whatever it takes to keep him around. In my estimation the organization stands to take in more money from the "Competitive balance/luxury tax" than they spent on payroll this season. I'm not the CFO, but I have a hunch that there is some money laying around. I'm up for making that deal happen. If there was an offer on the table and we didn't make it, I say BOOOOOOO! My only stipulation would be that if Ricky Nolasco were in the deal it would have to be a three way deal in which he would go to the Dodgers.
  23. Sorry to hear that. Such a talented kid, such an unfortunate situation. I wouldn't wish heroin addiction on anyone.
