  1. That's solid attendance. This issue has been resolved (issue misreported). Close the post.
  2. What the hell happened when I walked away? I just wanted to talk about Heath Bell and all I see is the word "erudite"!
  3. Here it is: If you're going to overpay, you overpay for upside. Offering $111M for Jose Reyes is a bold move by the Marlins, and I like it. A lot. and I absolutely adore the Marlins signing Jose Reyes. Again, Passan has some misinformed beliefs, but you need to look at what his real beef is with the team. Passan would have made it about how Marlins fans know he's just pulling the wool over our eyes and the money out of our pockets, or something to that effect.
  4. Think the next PPV Over the Limit has to be one that I get least excited for during the year. Last year it was Capitol Punishment, which was a snoozefest. I think the WWE should never go to DC, again, ever. The crowd suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Right on. It doesn't help they keep following hot crowds. They were terrible after Chicago's MITB and they also had the Raw after Miami's and killed all the momentum.
  5. The Marlins don't fake injuries. Why would any player want to be forced onto the DL so that he can't play or be forced to "rehab" in the minors? It's also ridiculously against the rules in the CBA.
  6. They've killed Paul Bearer more times than Kenny.
  7. Why are people wearing suits to baseball games!? What is this the 50's now!? This might sound crazy but people go to games after work. Especially since the ballpark is right next to downtown. Weekday afternoon games too. It's funny, I saw alot of people (mostly younger people) wearing business attire at the games with Marlins caps walking the concourse. They do stand out and its mostly because of it's proximity to downtown and the time they have between work and games. I'm sure most of the younger people wearign the business attire and the flat brimed caps came from their jobs by brickell and downtown in their souped up 1994 Honda Civic with the mismatching colored spoiler and over bearing exhaust. Well, my car is not mismatched, thank you very much.
  8. I liked it, but man I was I pissed they butchered LeBatards stance on the matter by splicing what he said up to serve their own purpose. Yeah man, that was messed up.
  9. Certainly still looks like a check to me. At most it should have been an appeal to the first base umpire. Like a check? The bat was still moving forwards after the ball passed it AND it broke the plane. I don't see how that wasn't a swing.
  10. God, that was amazing.
  11. 25K is the most on a Tuesday Night (non-opening day) since 1994. Chill out.
  12. On behalf of the New York Gothams, congrats for joining the civilized world even for this brief vacation and glad you enjoyed the park. Hope all is well. Thank you very much. Does the Conine League still exist? It seems forever stuck in a Doctor Who style time-loop. Was joyful to see one of my "hot" farm players at the Blue Sox (Mike Moustakas) has made MLB at the Royals. Am now back in England, the land of perma-drizzle, surliness, pointless competitiveness and turgid sport(s). Ho-hum. Holy crap, it's JRD. And no, it's as dead as the Bay Shinobis.
  13. It's not happening everywhere because it doesn't happen in my section either (and hasn't in any of the games) but I have heard people in other sections complain.
  14. Well, a big part of that is because everyone who wants to wear Miami Marlins gear has had to buy new gear over the last quarter, as opposed to fans of other teams who could just pull out gear they already had. But still, that's cool. I will say I've seen way more Miami Marlins gear in the wild than Florida Marlins stuff.
  15. Logo #2 and #3 look waaay better. Better than what?! It looks like a crazy logo from Madden when you relocate your team.
  16. The only way the Astros could be a worse team is by moving to Baltimore.
  17. The roundup! I forgot about these. Awesome.
  18. I just don't see what a 5 game suspension does. Who are they trying to appease? MLB? Because these Cuban groups probably don't give a flying crap about a 5-game suspension. It buys time. Ozzie can be hidden for a week or so. To hide from what, pots and pans being thrown at him? It lets the story die. Some people who do not have Cuban roots just don't get it! They don't get it because either they don't know the details about the horrors of the Castro regime or because deep down inside they don't give a damn. Some don't want to get it because they, for whatever reason, dislike, and some strongly dislike Cuban-Americans in general. So basically, if you can't understand why Cubans have an issue with Ozzie's statement, it boils down to ignorance, lack of empathy, dislike or hate. As an American citizen that came from Cuba as a child over 50 years ago, I was disappointed that Ozzie, the manager of my Marlins, said he "loved Castro" but reportedly meant to say something else. I am not sure if I believe his explanation but I do accept his apology. Maybe now Ozzie has realized why people of Cuban origins feel so strongly against the Castro government. Perhaps, hopefully some of you that believe that older Cuban-Americans always overeact can view their situation with the understanding that they deserve. While I don't have Cuban roots, I do have roots from a Latin-American country with a brutal, murderer of a dictator who forced my family to flee, leaving generations of wealth and land behind. Ozzie clearly didn't mean what people think (or are pretending to think) he said. He mean it that way, though it was a ridiculous thing to say and super insensitive. I do believe he definitely needed to apologize for what he said, as his choice of words was poor and his choice of content was poorer, but to paint him as someone who loves that Castro killed and oppressed is ridiculous. His explanation for what he meant makes perfect sense in context.
  19. Median age of protestors over/under 55? Keep dismissing the Cuban-American community as a bunch of old timers, but let me tell you something. I live in a town near Miami that's 75% Cubans or descendants of Cubans. The majority of second and third generation Cuban-Americans speak perfect Spanish, and have a lot of disposable income. My town has a median household salary of $75,000+, and most of these doctors, lawyers, architects, etc. love Cuba and care about Cuba because even though they have never been there, they grew up being told by their parents or grandparents how wonderful Cuba was before Castro. Some even belong to Cuban "nostalgia groups" that get together to smoke cigars and remember Cuba as it used to be. These 2nd and 3rd Generation Cuban-Americans with tons of money are the people that the Miami Marlins are trying to attract. So I would not be so quick to dismiss Cuban-Americans if I was working for the Marlins. That's why Ozzie is being forced to come down tomorrow and beg for forgiveness. Today at my local cigar lounge, a lot of these 2nd and 3rd Generation Cuban-Americans were ticked off with the Marlins, and I know some of them go to Marlins games and have season tickets. And those people have better places to be at 11AM than bitching at a stupid press conference.
  20. Seriously, I don't see how people think this is going to be an issue in a month. People get way too bored with their outrage if nothing happens (and nothing will happen), especially when it is something so damn... well, someone already used the word but... innocuous. This is such a ridiculous controversy and it's going to burn out. Also, nobody is going to try and shoot Ozzie. What the hell man?
  21. You move the team to Miami ... build a stadium smack dab in the middle of Little Havana ... and then alienate the local population. Brilliant! No chance that this blows over. Spanish language radio is going to be all over it. Ozzie is a moron and a PR nightmare. He was a bad hire, and the sooner he's replaced the better. Nobody is going to remember this by the break.
  22. Yeah, I definitely think this has the potential to be a Kevin Mass situation.
  23. I just got home from the game (we had to kinda celebrate after that) and that was so great. I was standing next to my fiancee, after the 4th goal I looked to her and said "Do you remember being at that Vancouver game (a particularly bad game a few years back that we reference all the time) where everything seemed completely hopeless?" she looks at me and we both just smiled and looked around.
