790 ESPN Radio gets first ratings
I personally have not tuned to QAM since the last radio-only game. Goldberg, Stern, Neil - give me a break. I will miss Eddie K, but se la vie. It worries me that QAM has right-of-first-refusal / ability to match $$$ for Marlins broadcasts. Go WAXY!!

DVH a hall of famer
Oh, I forgot to mention DVH's woeful call of the last out of the 2003 WS. He sounded totally surprised at (and unprepared for) the outcome. A quality pbp man would have semi-scripted the call of the last out, knowing that it would be replayed over-and over for years. As a result, you rarely hear DVH's blown call (more common is his call of the wild card clinch game, which was good).

DVH a hall of famer
I voted no. DVH puts me to sleep. A poor man's Vin Scully. If you listen, Boog does color when DVH is on play-by-play. But DVH basically disappears when Boog does p-b-p. I think he takes a break, and that's not productive to the broadcast. DHV also makes mistakes, and doesn't clearly identify where the ball is going (eg, a foul ball way off in the blue seats). And "up up & away" pretty well bites. Give me "hasta la vista, baby" any day.

Favorite Marlins Give-away
Old school - I like the 1998 "slammer" that has Joe Angel saying "And the Marlins are in the WIN column".

Paul LoDuca...
rferry - "Maybe you want to believe he came in here and reenergized the team, but I'm not going to buy a guy walking in from another clubhouse and instantly becoming a leader. " It happens - see Dalton,D.

I got tix for the DH Monday!
So I have these useless tix for the 9/14 game & I go over to Marlins En Miami to trade them in. There's about 25 peeps in line & I'm looking at a long wait. So, i ask around and find a guy who is there to trade his 9/4 tix (since he can't go on 9/20). I trade him my 9/14 tix for his 9/4s & I'm outta there. He's happy, I'm happy, everybody's happy. And a big thanx to true for making this happen. GO MARLINS!

Paul LoDuca...
Fast fact LoDuca born 4/12/72 Pudge born 11/27/71 Paulie spent a lot of time in the minors, so he's still arby eligible for next year. I'd love to see Loria sign him for 3 years at 24MM (sound familiar?)

Who is the Papa John's pitcher this month/next?
How exactly does this work? Free pizza with game ticket (like donuts)? Buy-one-get-one-free? Other? Must the fish win to redeem? Thanx.

Tough Loss
I don't feel sorry for Bonds at all. He showed his arrogance when we was thown out at second in (I believe) the 6th or 7th inning. He walked off VERY slowly (like he was 80 years old) and was booed roundly for that.

Tough Loss
I sat near the pen last night. Perisho was warming up when Rudy walked Bonds. He was throwing hard & looked ready. I don't believe Mando ever got up at all. Then, when Jack left Rudy in to face lefty Pierz, Perisho kinda stopped, looking disappointed. IMO, Jack wasn't going to use Mando all night & didn't trust Perisho for the situation. Tough loss - go gettum today...........

Anyone lookin for cheap tickets!
I was at Sports Authority near Dadeland on Saturday - they were selling ticket vouchers for the SF & Col series for $1 each (upper deck). Some sort of fundraiser for cancer. Sweeeeeeeettttttttttt!

Hi from Los Angeles
What killed the Bicenteniel site was the Port of Miami. They are very powerful and under no circumstances would they accept 81 more "traffic clogged" dates per year. A large part of their containerized shipping is off-loaded onto trucks which use the surrounding roads at all hours of the day & night. The Port is an extremely powerful economic engine for the whole region, and they got exactly what they wanted (no Marlins Stadium in the vicinity). The secondary killer was Johnny Winton's vision of "Museum Park", which won't attract enough traffic to make any difference to the Port.

Curious Holly wants to know something...
Holly, I think you're right. All fans tend to over-analyze games and play "what if". Even the best hitters (not named Bonds) fail to reach base around 60% of the time. It's part of the fun of being a fan. To my mind, baseball is so much superior to any other sport. Every day is a new start, with optimism (and pessimism) allowed and encouraged. Football/Basketball/Hockey is an event Baseball is a lifestyle

Have you ever caught a HR ball?
Loria threw out the first pitch when Marlins faced Univ of Miami at the Light back in spring training 2002, just after he took control of the team. He tossed me the ball & I met him afterwards & he autographed it for me. I also have one signed by John Henry. Nothing from HWH - would burn it anyway.

Pat Burrell out for the year
Burrell does not have a good rep with UM boosters - he forgot where he came from & has repeatedly dissed his old UM fans siince he became "a big star" (in his own mind). Jason Michaels, on the other hand, has been great and this may be his big chance to impress. Good luck to Jason!

Kendry Morales
Shaq, I've followed the team very closely ever since 93, & I can tell you that the cuban players did not increase ticket sales. Sample - in 97, you'd draw 23,000 on Tuesday to see KBrown, 24,000 on Wed to see ALeiter, then 18,000 on Thu to see AlexF. On a game-to-game basis, the cuban star influence did not translate to increased ticket sales. Now maybe (just maybe) that'll be different at the OB site - many cuban fans are older and unwilling to make the trek to JRS.

Kendry Morales
"I've always insisted on how the Fish would benefit from a high profile Cuban player which would bring more and more Cubans to the park." Sorry - didn't work with AlexF or Livan - Anyways, I think Kendry would accept less to play here in Havana North. It's like you getting an offer to play pro soccer in England or Bulgaria - where would you go?
