I'll tell you what, trying to take a step back from all these losses is not an easy thing... I don't even know why I should be bothered at this point.

 

However if the team can assemble an offense this season, & at least find out which of their thousands of pitching prospects are the real thing, that's not an awful way to look at the season. Get the bats in order, find your staff of the future & start getting them innings. We have tons of pitching, it's just going to take some time to sort through them all & see who's a keeper, who's ready for the bigs, & who could be trade bait down the line.

 

Our 1-4 hitters in the lineup are:

.331, .300, .336, .305

 

and we can all agree those 4 (Hanley, Uggla, Cabs, & Willingham) have met or surpassed expectations. (so far I mean, I know it's still early)

 

And we haven't even seen Jeremy Hermida yet.

The kiddie corps is hitting the ball well...even Jacobs hit tonite...if Jacobs can get into a hitting streak this team will score runs in bunches

I am not worried as much with this offense... Last year's team it took forever to get 2 runs a game outta them... Having this offense with last year's pitching staff mighta made for an interesting year...

For some reason, I still don't like Uggla in the 2-hole. I know Pierre's terrible 2005 forced us to get rid of him, but I would have LOVED to see this:

Ideally, I think Hanley fits better in the 2-hole than Uggla. I've always been a fan of the true leadoff guy, not merely batting someone leadoff that has speed. I want the leadoff guy focusing only on getting to first base...no matter what. Not someone who could be more of a run-producer. Hanley is obviously doing a great job, but I think he could be more of a force if we had a Pierre-type player that was on base %35-40 of Hanley's ABs.

 

ANYWAYS, we are left with what we are left with, and I have been very impressed with Hanley and Uggla to this point.

The kids can hit, but I've seen some poor baserunning and bad defense. That stuff will sharpen up. Of course, it's after the fact, because it's way unlikely we'll contend for a playoff spot, but hopefully we can sniff .500.

This club is extremely adjusted and have to play the whole game rather than the first six innings. They have to make minor adjustments, and they have to make the right decisions soon. Then they will be at .500 at no time.

Even with some of the bone-crushing defeats we have endured.......this years team is less frustrating to watch than last years team with its pathetic RISP avg. At least with this team you dont feel like your out of it just because your down 4-5 runs.

 

Like you said......lets give all these pitching prospects their shot.......Welle-walker has one foot out the door as far as Im concerned. He doesn't get it done.

 

Hopefully this will be remembered as the year where our offense kept us in games and Sanchez,Petit,Nolasco,Johnson and Olsen found their comfort zone in the bigs.

Then they will be at .500 at no time.

Looked good tonight.. starting to come around.. The 9th inning at bats of Reggie and Chris were pretty horrible though

The 1-4 hitters have been performing very well so far (and to me, Uggla is a huge surprise). If they can keep it up (and I expect at the least Cabs and Willy to), this team has a very decent core to build on for the next few years.

 

At least that would be one positive for us to build on this year.

If you look at JP he's off to another season like that -- leads me to believe the Marlins may have gotten the best of JP. :thumbup

I think they definately will be close to .400 by the end of the year -- but .500 is a reach. :o

Actually Shadez has become "the guy" in our lineup. He is our tablesetter he is literally our offensive spark...Cabs and Willy have been feeding off of him. i hate to make premature judgements but he looks to be one of the best SS to come up in awhile...how good?...well in August we can revisit this matter

It may be a little bit unorthodox, but wouldn't you rather have Hanley getting the most plate appearances out of all on the team, with the capability of getting into scoring position far more frequently than the speedy "leadoff guy that's focused only on getting to first base"? Hanley's done incredibly well in the role, let's not move him (or him and Uggla) for just a leadoff guy when we could get a better hitter to bat 2nd or 5th/6th. Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon anyone?

 

 

Good post Hotcorner. I believe the ptching will develop to allow us to go on a run that will get us close, if not to, .500.

I guess some of you out there won't give up on this .500 thing until we're mathematically eliminated from reaching .500. Reaching .400 is a more realistic goal.

Exactly -- its just reality -- .400 is more attainable with the lineup we have now. It would be nice to exceed that, but how many of you guys would put your hard earned $$$ on it in Vegas ?

I think everyone knows that our offense will be pretty good in a few years. When Jacob gets on track and Hermida is healthy, we will have a great lineup. I cant wait to see the offense in 2 years.
