Post Game Thoughts 3/31 Opening Day

Featured Replies

It seemed like it was a long shot on paper and turned out to be so. Hendrickson went up against a tough offense tonight and had a bad inning and he just couldn't stop the bleeding. Tomorrow's another day :confused

The only positive thing I saw today was Hammer's homer. Tomorrow is another day - too bad I wont be able to watch the game.

Is Hendrickson really better than Nolasco? I was surprised he even got the opening day start.

I hope that Nolasco is better than Hendrickson, but he pitched well in spring and he is the veteran of the group so he got the nod. He was going along pretty well until the floor dropped out in the fourth. Whoever they threw out there would have been in a tough spot facing Santana, but it's only one game, we'll see what happens....

Hendrickson had a pretty strong Spring and of course Olsen had a minor injury that set him back, Miller was having control issues, Mitre got hurt early in ST, as for Nolasco, he wasn't overly impressive in ST. What's great about baseball is it's a 162 game season

While it's a long season and it was a tall task to complete, the two issues that we needed to fix cost the team runs: pitching and defense. Hopefully, this won't happen tomorrow.

Was it just me or was Hendrickson being squeezed by that home plate ump in the 4th? From my seats in centerfield, a good 4 or 5 pitches looked like strikes in that inning alone...

4:10 games suck, by the way... that sun peeking just over the stadium wall from 5:30-6:45 is extremely annoying.

Yea, I was in the fish tank too, and I'm effin roasted.

I am really proud of mets fans...I was in section 141 and i gotta say mets fans diddn't act up to much. ahaha I dno if anyone heard people screaming out Johannnn Johannn but that was us. I was disappointed in Hanley but he had a nice play at short as well as Ugglas play at second. Overall it wasn't such a great experience.

We had some Mets fans get kicked out... haha they were rowdy where we were. But we shut 'em up pretty good.

The ump was squeezing both sides, in my opinion. Hendrickson did not get any calls, though.

There's 161 games left in the season and I'm looking forward to it despite the poor performance today.

Allowed 4-runs in two out situation.

:awful

Also, No.3 spot, It could be most weakest point til Hermida's Back.

Cantu sucks. The ball hit towards third in the 4th inning was all his, and he watched it go by.

The error that Treanor got was a bad throw, but not bad enough for him to let it go by.

what we need is to get hermida and rabelo back and to let cody play full time

I agree. We need to get Hermida back in the lineup. I do not like LuGo as an everyday starter. I don't know if I like Cody starting in center either, though. I was happy with Alfredo's pinch hit today. I wouldn't mind seeing him start every now and then.

Truthfully, Hendrickson had one bad inning against a very potent offense, I don't like losing but I was more concerned that Lindstrom continues to struggle as he did all spring. Hanley made a couple of good defensive plays as did Uggla and I thought Jacobs looked a lot better at first, especially stretching to get Uggla's throw on a late double play attempt. Dan and hanley both made individual degfensive plays I saw as improvement over last season. I can't remember a play that another third baseman would make that Cantu didn't, Willingham made a great catch on a ball he took off his shoe tops. Treanor threw out two.

The Marlins bats were a bigger problem than Hendrickson, they could have, should have scored at least three more runs and didn't not because Santana was so overpowering, he wasn't, but lousy at bats against a very good pitcher usually mean a loss. Hopefully they take something from this game and improve tomorrow.

??? I'm having a brain freeze, refresh my memory (you don't mean castillo's bunt I assume).

No, the one that was scorched down the line. I thought the same thing at first (that he should have been able to field it or knock it down) but upon seeing the replay it was out of reach, very close to being foul. You can fault his defensive positioning maybe, but not his range.

yeah, cantu was fine defensively today...i believe he is referring to pagan's double...which was a shot down the line that stretch armstrong couldnt have gotten to

and treanor's throw was in-between hopped to cantu and was a really tough play(not to make excuses for the guy) but he is hardly the reason we lost

hendrickson had one bad inning and was squeezed by the ump all game

and we had alot of poor AB's against santana who was getting low strike calls left and right

tomorrow is a new day with the hurk on the mound against a frail pedro

If you want some really good news the Miami Herald/McClatchy are almost bankrupt. be still my heart, the idea of Clark Spencer and Mike Phillips unemployed is so delicious I can't be too bummed tonight.

Yeah, I think he means the ball off of the bat of Pagan in the 4th inning. I don't think he really had a chance.

It's a shame, though. If he makes the play it's a completely different ballgame.

Eh, I was near the 3rd baseline and and it looked to me like he had a great chance. But then again, angles can be deceiving when you are at the park. I'm waiting for the replay on MLB.tv to come up to see how it looked on TV.
