what do you think about plugging him in at 3rd the only reason cantu is there now is for his bat and hasn't shown much and helms showed in Philly he can't go every day what do you guys think

Nope not yet, has he earned to play a little more and spot start? Yes. He provides a good bat of the bench now and defensive replacement for Cantu for later in the games.

That said, I think it will be hard to send down a guy hitting as well as he is now. I hope the team finds a spot for him, but for any long-term starting position he's gonna need to go somewhere new. Unless we were to do something crazy like push Hanley over to 3B and play Andino at SS. Back when Hanley was in the Red Sox org people expected that as got bigger he would move over to 3B eventually. Just a thought.

I was thinking the same thing. If he keeps hitting like this, do we really have a choice?

i wouldnt mind seeing that lineup...but in the mcphereson signing...unless he becomes our first baseman...i doubt the organization has any interest in moving defensive positions for multiple players

Although I want Andino getting everyday AB. AAA is probably the best place for that at the moment, but as soon as the Dan train rides out of town with arbitration, I would like an Andino/Amezaga 2B platoon for sure until Coghlan proves he can hack it.

Andino is awesome off the bench. He's showing some pop, and he's great defensively at SS, 2B, and 3B. I love him on the bench.

You really can't say that he is great defensively at 3B, as he has only played one inning there professionally. But I wouldn't put it past him to learn it quickly.

I like Dan Uggla , I have met him he seems like a nice guy , but I think the Club needs to determine what is more valuable his power , or obtaining a better defensive second baseman who puts the ball in play more. Moving forward I think the marlins need to alter their line up to improve defensively and cut down on the strike outs .

I don't know how its going overboard iww are not talking about a great 3rd basemen in Cantu not saying he's a bad player but how much is the 2006 season contributing to him starting today he's not really proving much and Andino is just more comfortable at the plate and has always played the left side of the infield so untill cantu shows something I think the hot bat should start

I think in the long term this might be the best option. If Hanley can't figure out his defense, push him to third and plug in Andino at SS. I'm talking long term though, not this year. Give everybody playing their positions a chance to prove themselves this year. If Cantu doesn't work out, then rearrange based on where Andino fits in best defensively (could also be at 2B with Uggla moving to third). I really have very little confidence in Cantu in the long run.

I don't think you start him at third yet. I will also admit that I do not care for Andino, but I have been pleasantly surprised by him so far this season.

oh I have no problem giving him some spot starts, just saying let's not anoint him our starting 3B.

 

Especially if Amezaga is needed in CF for a while, Andino could get quite a few spot starts at SS/2B/3B if he's hitting.

 

It's encouraging though, I'm rooting for the kid.

I don't think he's won a spot in the lineup just yet. A spot on our bench? Yes. More playing time? Maybe. But you need more than two homers (albeit important ones) to crack the lineup.
