Bobby Abreu "would love to play here"

Featured Replies

? Though unsigned Bobby Abreu would love to play here, the Marlins want a $35 million payroll and won't sign free agents worth more than $2 million or so, unless Jeffrey Loria changes his mind. Cody Ross is the frontrunner in left field. First baseman Logan Morrison, the Florida State League's MVP, could be Florida's left fielder by 2010.

Another Barry Jackson cheapshot. Why am I not surprised? He just threw it in to see if anyone picks it up and quotes him like his last few Marlins one-liners that turned out to be absolutely nothing.

He used to be incompetent, now he's just a media whore and nothing more.

Beh, I don't want him. He certainly doesn't fit the "defense is important" mold, is going to be 35, and doesn't give enough offense over Cody in exchange for the price and the huge loss on D.

That said, it won't happen anyways.

I wouldn't mind him as Lou's 1B/LF guy, pending he goes out and gets a 1B glove and learns how to use it... of course, if he comes cheap as well

He won't come cheap, nor will he be a that guy seeing as he had a .800+ OPS last season. He'll end up a starter somewhere making good money.

Signing Abreu is a pipe dream. Outfielders in the Marlins' price range would likely be Brad Wilkerson, Gabe Kapler, Kevin Mench, Cory Sullivan, Chris Duffy, Brady Clark, Ryan Langerhans, Scott Podsednik, Jason Michaels, Shannon Stewart and Greg Norton.

:lol

Hes going to get arbitration from the Yanks so he will cost picks, but Abreu's defense is not as horrible as expected. He was a former Gold Glover with Philly.

Not only was that a long time ago, I don't think it was particularly well deserved.

The Fielding Bible's Plus/Minus ranked Abreu 34th, 32nd, and 32nd amongst RFers over the last 3 years.

Everyone would love to play here. The question is would they wanna play here with a salary cut. Bobby Abreu is done no thanks.

His defense is now officially horrible. Not interested. I would rather look at Garret Anderson if we're going to spend money.

Good thinking I wouldn't mind him at all.

I don't know if his defense is on the decline that some here think, but he's exactly the kind of player we need IMO. His approach at the plate is exactly what we're looking for.

Marlins 2009 projected lineup:

Did John Baker die mysteriously? He is going to be our Opening Day 2009 starter.

Bonds will be in jail soon, anyway...

Speaking of jail, I think the biggest crime in his post isn't the absence of Baker, but rather he has Bonds slated in Center. Good Lord that would be the most atrocious OF in terms of defense ever. I'd say the over/under in terms of total range between the 3 of them would have to be like 4, maybe 5 steps.

I wouldn't love to have him. Too whiny and would ask for too much money. The guy never plays hard either, that's why they hated him in Philly

I am sure Abreu would love to play in the Florida Sun and get arepas on Sunday mornings however I doubt he fits in the concept of 1 year rental that the Marlins envision, not with his salary requirements
