July 26, 201015 yr Just a thought, do you think the FO will organize 2011 as a way to commemorate our last year at Sun Life? I know we don't have the best of relationships with that place and we cant compare to the Mets at Shea and the Twins at the Metrodome but both of those teams honored their old ballparks in their last year there. Will the Fish do this? I cant stand the place either but all of our history is currently rooted in that cavernous orange monstrosity... Id imagine we'd at least get a sleeve patch or something.
July 26, 201015 yr I think the better question is who'll pull off the last number at the last game....
July 26, 201015 yr of course they will. I would think the last number would be a number of guys at the same time. something like Mckeon, Conince, Counsell if he is not playing, and other guys like that who have been important to the franchise. i hope they give tommy a number.
July 26, 201015 yr That terrible place shouldn't receive a shred of commemoration from the Marlins. Once the Marlins are done there, I'll be so glad to never step foot in it again.

The Marlins should absolutely honor their time there. It was the team's first home and 2 World Series were played in that stadium. There are all sorts of great moments there that have an important place in team history. Also, it won't be the final number, but I'm betting that one of the last numbers to be pulled down goes to the grounds crew.

You can hate that place all you want, but we likely wouldn't have a team if it hadn't existed. And if we had never invented the wheel, bicycles would never have existed.:blush I don't think this team owes anything else to that stadium or its owners. Whatever we owed them was paid off a long time ago, and they've been milking since.
July 27, 201015 yr I love the idea of a much-needed new stadium, but I first became a fan of this team when they were playing in JRS. For better or for worse its been part of Marlins games for nearly 2 decades, and two WS have been played there.
July 27, 201015 yr I can picture Wayne H doing his Mister Burns imitation at the end of the last ever Home game... As soon as the final out is recorded, he kicks everyone out by "Releasing the hounds"...
July 27, 201015 yr I know it has some sentimental value for some of you, but JRS (or whatever you want to call it) will probably be honored about as much as Shea was when it is vacated after next season. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sleeve patch, but I doubt there will be more than that. The countdown is usually the main attraction.
July 27, 201015 yr As much as we may not like it for baseball games, it's still a vital part of Marlins history.
July 28, 201015 yr Author I wonder if they would be allowed to have the new logo next season, and wear the current one as a patch. Like a transition past and future marlins thing. Im not digging that. Thats like getting married and spending your honeymoon in your parent's house.
July 28, 201015 yr they should honor the stadium by exploding it, along with the dolphins and huizenga. nay for the patch!
July 30, 201015 yr I wonder if they would be allowed to have the new logo next season, and wear the current one as a patch. Like a transition past and future marlins thing. Nah, I think they want to release everything in one giant package, or at least not before the end of next season.
July 30, 201015 yr I can picture Wayne H doing his Mister Burns imitation at the end of the last ever Home game... As soon as the final out is recorded, he kicks everyone out by "Releasing the hounds"... That would work if Huizenga still owned the stadium or the Dolphins...
July 30, 201015 yr I'd just like to take a quick second and say YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbup

July 31, 201015 yr The only reason I might have some sort of attachment to jrs is that I went to my first baseball game there. I remember the feeling coming from the interior of the stadium to the stands and it was amazing. But beyond that I really just want to be in the new stadium already. Well as others mentioned, we did have the world series and playoffs and tons of history for the marlins there at Sun Life/Dolphin/Joe Robbie Stadium and you can't forget those moments. But I too will remember Joe Robbie Stadium for my first baseball game, when I saw the yankees and twins play in a spring training game in 1992; a year before the marlins. Oddly, besides everything else, I can remember leaving the stadium and hearing (for the first time) Abbott and Costello's Who's On First playing over the loudspeaker. I was probably 11 years old at the time. In any case, I had to find a copy of it and rent it from blockbuster -- it was hilarious to me at the time. Now whenever I hear that old comedy skit, I think of JRS and that game...weird huh?
August 4, 201015 yr I think the better question is who'll pull off the last number at the last game.... Either Loria / Samson or Mr. Marlin Jeff Conine

No he sold the Dolphins & the stadium to Ross in 2008/2009 - 50 % in 2008 and then the other 50% in 2009. I think he is the sole owner of the stadium. I believe Gloria & Emilio Estefan, Serena & Venus Williams, Marc Antony & Jennifer Lopez only bought parts of the Dolphins, not any of the stadium.
August 4, 201015 yr they should honor the stadium by exploding it, along with the dolphins and huizenga. nay for the patch! Why should they do that ? Dolphins hater ? :thumbdown

It didn't just put them the HOF in Cooperstown, it put them all over the city. Seriously,I couldn't escape the skit no matter how hard I tried when I went to visited the Hall. Granted, it was downright awesome, but it was a bit tiring to hear and see it during dinner or in hotel lobbies..
December 16, 201015 yr Isn't the stadium supposed to be getting a new name about now? Its been Sun Life for what? 10 months? It's way over due for a new name.
