Bob Davidson after the game - "I'm very confident i got it right. I understand that's the winning run but in my opinion it was foul"

How about he watches a replay?

I wonder if he apologizes like the umpire did after blowing the perfect game in Detroit ? This really is going to make it harder to make the playoffs, but we still can. As long as we are not mathematically eliminated we have a shot. C'mon guys and lets rally for the boys and cheer them on to a sweep of the Cards ! :thumbup

Even after watching replays, Davidson would not admit he blew the call.

“I was right on top of it and it was wide of the bag, that’s all, Davidson said. “I had it foul. In my opinion, where it goes over the bag you can’t tell. After a bounce, it came an inch or two on the fair side, but … it was very close. But I’m right there. I know what I saw. I’m very confident I got it right. What the ball did when it went past me is irrelevant. As I’m looking at the base, it was just to the right of it.

“I understand that’s the winning run, but in my opinion it was foul and there’s no replay that you can really see what the ball does over the bag, and that’s what’s important, but I know what I saw.

Rodriguez isn’t buying it. The fact Davidson did not eject him in Rodriguez mind proves he had doubts.

“What I told him was enough to throw me out of the game, Rodriguez said. “I know he was sure he made a mistake.

Then it was fair, moron.

What a douche.

Incredulous and stupified. Unbelievable. I hope the MLB Umpires take this up and fine and suspend this idiot Davidson.

So apparantly this ball changed directions mid flight. Charlie Manuel's telekinetic abilities are to blame.

That's absolutely awful. I think that's a fireable offense to be perfectly and calmly honest. To deny a certainty like that, just unprofessional and offensive.

To go out and say that you made the right call when there is video documentation that CLEARLY illustrates that you didn't only makes players, coaches and fans alike lose confidence in the umpiring staff. I mean, does someone need to sit Davidson down with an official MLB rule book, watch the tape with him and show him where his call went wrong? Wouldn't a wiser decision be to just admit you're wrong? This is all very foolish in my opinion.

Did he literally just say "what the ball does when it went past me is irrelevant?

THAT'S THE REASON PEOPLE ARE MAD AT YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!

That was awful as the Marlins should have won the game right there, but, they certainly didn't come out looking too good in the 10th. Ohman gives up a bomb and our guys looked awful against Brad Lidge.

I'll admit I missed the play when it was live, but the mlb.com site just posted the video and I'll admit I laughed. I can count on my fingers the amount of times I've heard Rich and Tommy rage like that. That was nuts.

By the way, Ohman looked terrible.

You're right about that. What got into Carlos Ruiz in this series? He looked like Mike Piazza up there. Ben Francisco hit a bomb off Ohman too but it was just foul.

By the way, Ohman looked terrible.

As many said at the time of the acquisition, he's another Tankersley. I actually called him an older version of Tankersley. If you dislike Tankersley, you won't like this guy. The people who did the damage off of Ohman tonight were RH hitters (Ruiz HR, Francisco hit one foul).

Yeah, the pen was taxed though so there wasn't much choice.

That is impossible.

It's not impossible, it could have taken a "bad" hop on the second hit, and curved around the bag just slightly. Harold Reynolds demonstrated how balls can curve once they bounce on the MLB Network tonight (on a smooth studio set, not even a pitted, beat up dirt infield): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10663381&topic_id=7417714

And a lot of people, including in that clip, do not understand MLB rules. Once a ball has bounced before passing the bag, it is all about where the ball is when it passes the bag. The ball tonight could have landed 10 feet fair, and everyone could have seen it, but if it really did curl around the bag it would be a foul ball. Davidson was right there and didn't flinch an inch, he watched the entire play and believes he made the right call.

Any ball that "bounds [which means it bounced at least once before reaching the bag] past first or third base on or over foul territory" is a foul ball according to MLB rules: http://mlb.mlb.com/m...on_of_terms.pdf

Is there footage if the play on YouTube? I was at school so I didn't see it. Maybe I don't wanna see it.

There's no way I'd have a career in professional sports. I would not be able to restrain myself from physically going off on an umpire when they blow a call and don't change it. I have no idea how players and coaches restrain themselves. I think that's the only way MLB will finally do something.

If this happened in the playoffs would the extra umpire manning the foul line have overruled the call(assuming he knew it was wrong)?

I did the Math. After Edwin said in a clip he believes in the team making history...

Marlins are winless so far this month...if Marlins just take 2 out of 3 and 3 out of 4 rest of month every series, including the 2 games against Nats at end of month...win them both...that be 17 wins..53+17 = 70 wins. 20-7...September to win 90 games this year...ouch. Ouch. Need to get hot. And even then, 90 wins probably no playoffs. It can happen...but I doubt it. Marlins need to just go one game at a time and also maybe play spoilers...go out there with an attitude to win. If Edwin believes I believe, Edwin is cool.

Basically, the Marlins need to pull a 2010 White Sox or Astros or Rockies of years past to have a shot.

I don't know about finding the video on youtube but if you go to marlins.com before the next game, you should be able to see the video on the site. If it's not playing in the top-right of the site then you're too late. There's probably a larger video on youtube though, I haven't looked. And I agree, I don't know how they restrain themselves sometimes

Did Edwin play the remainder of this game "under protest"?

Even though it's highly unlikely the outcome would be overturned, that would certainly bring more focus from the league office when evaulation Davidson for post-season assignments...........

What are the plusses & minusses of playing under protest?

At Marlino:

Leo has been pretty lightsout this season.

2.91 ERA 26 SVS 1.19 WHIP .237 BAA proves it.

He has 6 Blown Saves but 2 were pretty much BS and that includes last night as Hanley started the inning of great with an error.

Leo is a great closer who's young, cheap and we got him for a guy how's been released and DFAd about 3 times this season.

There is no one else on the team other then Leo that I'd want closing.

I like (hate) how Davidson says what happens to the ball after it passes him is irrelevant when the ball clearly lands fair slightly infront and to the left of him.

Of course, he is already putting his hands up to signal foul before the ball even gets to third it seems.
