September 29, 201114 yr I've seen articles speculating which coaches will join Ozzie, like Joey Cora for sure is coming, any guesses who they'll retain or who's gone?
September 29, 201114 yr Eduardo Perez will definitely be back as Hitting Coach, and I think I read or heard Randy St. Claire will be back as Pitching Coach. Others were being discussed.
September 29, 201114 yr Author I saw that KC let go of Bob McClure ( a former Marlin) I was hoping they would at least interview him. Cooper's probably not leaving Chicago anytime soon

September 30, 201114 yr I want Joe Espada to stay! He has been nothing less than excellent at 3rd base, and I don't see why we wouldn't bring him back unless it was he who doesn't want to come back.
September 30, 201114 yr During the press conference Ozzie mentioned Cora coming in, St. Claire staying, and that he was talking to Espada and Hill.
September 30, 201114 yr yea i would really like for both of them to stay and if its only cora coming in i dont know why there would be any reason for them to leave.
October 1, 201114 yr I want Joe Espada to stay! He has been nothing less than excellent at 3rd base, and I don't see why we wouldn't bring him back unless it was he who doesn't want to come back. He was also a rookie OF coach. And there were enough OF mind farts to say he didn't do all that well in that capacity. That's with the help of 9er and Hawk. Ozzie seems quite happy with Cora, so........St Claire I could go either way on. BP coaching and catching seemed improved. If only because they actually seemed to communicate with the dug out better than in years past. But that could also just be because we had a better pen. Hill staying or going shouldn't even be a topic. Give the guy whatever it will take to stay. Period. FO needs to be in the background in picking the coaches. Have some input, but not the complete say in who stays and who goes. Big deal is being made how much they wanted Ozzie, and how much they trust Ozzie, and...... So let Ozzie pick his staff. The more comfortable he is, the better job he will do. Let the FO concentrate on getting those guys signed, working the FA lists, AND talking trades. Heavy emphasis on trades. Get that coaching staff something to really work with.
October 3, 201114 yr Author From Marlins website Joining Guillen from the White Sox will be Joey Cora, although his exact title hasn't been determined. Cora was the bench coach in Chicago. From the Marlins' current staff, hitting coach Eduardo Perez has another year on his contract, and he will return, as will pitching coach Randy St. Claire. Third-base coach Joe Espada and first-base coach Perry Hill both spoke with Guillen on Wednesday. There is a chance they will be back. As for bench coach Brandon Hyde and bullpen coach Reid Cornelius, the organization will wait and see. Bullpen catcher Jeffrey Urgelles likely will return.

He also had basically 50% of his outfield innings taken up by infielders converted within the last 2 years.

I wonder why Perry Hill isn't a lock to return? That kinda scares me cuz its obvious how much our defense improved... why would we wanna lose that?

IMO, he didn't do his job well enough. Now, if it had been the first year of these guys playing the OF I would give some slack. But these guys were making some pretty basic mistakes out there. Not talking about bad routes either. Just saying, I could care in the least if he stays or goes. Did okay at 3B, but did poorly as OF coach. And that was with some pretty good Special Assistants' help. In any case, it should be up to Ozzie. Let him choose who he wants.

We have been trying to bring Perry back and finally succeeded last year. Maybe he's trying to decide if he wants to work with Ozzie or not. Or maybe his health and the rigors of another full season are on his mind.
October 5, 201114 yr When did I say I like Joe Espada? You didn't, in so many words. The word "you" was being used in the general term. I commented on giving him an excuse for his mediocrity in OF coaching. But if somebody is going to make excuses for him, there has to be a reason for it.
October 5, 201114 yr It's not possible that he has bad personnel to work with? The best outfield coach in the universe isn't making Coghlan and Morrison a good outfield combination.
October 5, 201114 yr I agree with bobbob. Even in Perry Hill's case, as good as he is, the infield defense also improved because of personnel more than anything. Infante is a lot better than Uggla, defensively. It's not as if he turned terrible infielders into good ones. I'd say the team defense just lived up to expectations.
October 5, 201114 yr Can I be the guy who points out that we didn't have some terrible defensive outfield this year besides Logan Morrison? Before he went down just about everyone was talking about CC's surprising defense in CF, Mike Stanton was statistically between okay and very good, Boni, Cousins and Petersen were okay, and then we've got guys like Mike Cameron and Wise.

I'll second it. Of course CC defense depends on who you talk to around here. For a first year CF he played some good defense. Lomo has been about the only one who hasn't been the greatest out there.
