January 13, 201214 yr I can't be the only one under the impression that it's 100% certain we're signing him. like, I just want to slap that last article posted in the face From the way that our front office is talking about it, and the lack of interest from the rest of the league, I'd have to assume so. And I have a feeling we'll pick him up for a lot closer to $40/mill than $60/mill...

Can't post it because I'm on my phone. /squall http://www.fishstrip...des-compilation The Yoennis Cespedes Compilation On news that the Marlins will be "aggressive right to the point of stupidity" with their pursuit of Yoennis Cespedes, it seems about right for us to take a look at everything there is to know about Cespedes. Since we may be in the lead for the biggest name in Cuban prospects since Aroldis Chapman, we should know what we are getting ourselves into. With that in mind, here are some commentaries of what we have heard about the young man since he debuted in our hearts in minds almost two months ago. ----------------
January 14, 201214 yr I'm honestly all for Cespedes ... at the worst he turns into a Chris Coughlan with 20+ jack power but without the injuries, I don't really see him as more than a 6 - 7 hole hitter.

I think it's too early to pinhole him in the lineup without seeing how he fares against MLB pitching. I hope we sign him and give him every opportunity to make the club out of ST. If he doesn't prove he belongs here right away, I hope that the club doesn't try to stick him on the 25-Man roster just because of the fact that he's making $$$. His true value would be if he becomes a seasoned player in the next few years because of being carefully trained at different levels in the system. The road to the World Series is a marathon, not a sprint.

The good thing is, even if you're wrong and he's an elite producer, he doesn't have any pressure to perform that way immediately because he'll fit in at the bottom of the order anyway. With Bonifacio out of the starting lineup, I imagine Infante hitting second and Cespedes batting seventh. Luckily we don't have to rush him into the middle of the order.

At worst, he's the worst. Y'know, since we have absolutely no idea about him since he has no track record. I hope he doesn't get a base hit in the Dominican and the Marlins lose interest.

He has to establish residency in the Dominican before he can clear with MLB. According to marlins.com, that should come within the next few days. No timetable on when his FA would kick in. With 6 teams seriously looking at him, there is a pretty good chance at least one will be offering "stupid" money/contract. Wouldn't mind getting him, but let's not do something that handcuffs the future.
January 14, 201214 yr I like the idea of getting a star 25 year old centerfielder with the potential to be great for 10 million or so a year. For me, it would be different if it were any other position; well, except catcher.

For me, it would be different if it were any other position; well, except catcher. First, he's 26-years-old. Even if he somehow gets the $60 Million he wants (which he won't), it will be for like 8-years. No way he gets $10 Million Per Year, even if he gets what he wants.

That's still too much money. I don't see him getting more than $45 million, which is reasonable. I don't think anybody expects this guy to be a star, and if you do, you're not being realistic. Most scouting reports compare him to Wily Mo Pena offensively. His real value is going to be in Center and on the bases, and we really have yet to see how his routes to the ball are, how he runs the bases in certain situations, etc. so even saying that might be premature.
January 15, 201214 yr Enrique_Rojas1 Enrique Rojas/ESPN Yoenis Cespedes fly to 3B. In 11 pro AB no ball to OF. 1 for 10, infield hit, HBP, 5Ks. Skeptic: "False advertising! Overrated!" Optimist: "It's a small sample size!"

I do believe he'll be a good bottom of the lineup guy that we'd be able to get in his prime years (age wise) for a relatively reasonable price. I dont believe he'll be an impact player from the get-go but certainly a good addition midseason and beyond.
