December 19, 201114 yr January is in 2 weeks. I think we need to make at least 1 more upgrade. CJ Wilson was the ideal, but a position player like Cespedes could work.
December 19, 201114 yr PER BUSTER OLNEY ON TWITTER: What good friend @Enrique_Rojas1 is reporting: Cespedes has established residency in D.R., and the bidding can begin soon. Let the fun begin!!!!!!
December 20, 201114 yr I hope we go after him, we definitely need another upgrade. I can see the FO going after him since he is Cuban and all and we are Cool. International. If we do get him the question is who do they move? Do they A) get rid of Mr. Twitter or B) Trade one cuban for another and get rid of Gaby?
December 20, 201114 yr There's a consensus among international MLB people that the Yankees are "BIG" on Yoenis Cespedes, according to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus (on Twitter). Cespedes is close to establishing residency in the Dominican Republic, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes. The Cuban outfielder still needs to secure a license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control since his residency is not permanent. The process could take two weeks, but he should be cleared to sign sometime in January.
December 20, 201114 yr Yoenis Cespedes = Pedro Cerrano Side note- the marlins went on record numerous times saying they are interested and impressed. Not only that, but the latest YouTube video shows Ozzie buddying up to him with who I believe is Eduardo Perez. The marlins want him badly- they'll get him on the mere fact were the largest Hispanic population in the US and the smooth transition he can endure. Personally- I'd sign him up and rapidly test his skills in A-AA-AAA if he doesn't make the impression we want in big league spring training camp. Give him the chance to make the opening day roster. Give him what wants- a chance

Buyouts to terminate at any point in 5-6-7-8. Let me get dat. Never Estimate the ability to order food and get gas in your native tounge.
December 21, 201114 yr 3 years 25Million. Don't let him set the market, he's proven nothing yet. Agreed. Chapman's contract cannot be used as a comparable to set his market. Pitching talent is much easier to evaluate than hitting.
December 21, 201114 yr They should sign Soler. It'll cost 1/3rd Cepedes, is 7 years younger, and BA rates him as a top 11-20 overall prospect if he were in baseball right now, would have been a top 5-7 selection 2010 draft. Marlins need those kind of guys, not complete hail marys to guys who have never seen a real breaking ball. Would be an enormous statement to go out and get him for future international signings. That Cepedes money can be used so much more effectively and efficiently.
December 21, 201114 yr scouts don't see guys like Cespedes face breaking balls before talking about how amazing they are?
December 21, 201114 yr Cuban leagues are the equivalent of A+ competition, and their pitchers are not going go have 2-3 plus offerings like even AA pitchers. Thats like him mashing Jupiter. At 26. He has never faced consistent quality. Scouts are just projecting him and his tool set to transition because he's an undeniable amazing athlete. That's a big risk for $60 if that's what he gets. He's going to be terrible for that price, even if he makes it. This is all hype.

Let me get that!

December 21, 201114 yr The difference, as Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com notes, is that Cespedes will be a free agent in the traditional sense, with every team being allowed to negotiate with the center fielder as they would any other player. Here's the latest on Cespedes:The expectation in baseball is that the bidding for Cespedes could get "crazy." One team official said the outfielder's agent is seeking $25-45MM, but many believe the total value of the contract will exceed that. Some teams regard the Marlins as the early favorite to sign Cespedes. MLBTR
December 21, 201114 yr Cuban leagues are the equivalent of A+ competition Don't ever go near Cuba under the name "MarlinsLou." They'd toss you into prison for life for exposing the workers' paradise to yet more ridicule. :lol
December 21, 201114 yr If this guy was anything other than Cuban, I honestly don't think we'd be interested.
