Yoenis Cespedes to Athletics

Featured Replies

does anyone know how he performed against quality pitching at the WBC? I know he put up good stats overall, but I was wondering how he did against the good teams, like the USA, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, etc. I dont think anyone cares how he did against China or whatever. If he did well, this could be a glimpse at his potential to handle ML pitching.

Small sample size.

I understand its a small sample size, but what else do we have to go off of? How he performed against A ball pitching in Cuba?

OK, if we are to sign him, would it be possible to have it like this?

Say it's an 8/65 or something like that. Could they make it be Minor League money to start off to see how he does in the Minors, and then if/when he gets called up to the Majors, he starts making Major League money? Like perhaps make it a split contract, and the $65mm would be with full incentives filled out?

Contract guys, info?

You could do something like that, but I doubt Cespedes would take that deal unless the incentives/ML pay were fantastic compared to other guaranteed offers.

There are some limited circumstances of split contracts, but not how you are envisioning it. Think Andrew Miller past his rookie contract, he was on a split contract because he wasn't eligible yet for arbitration, still had options, and got different amounts depending on where he was.

Cepedes would never agree to a deal how you're musing. He doesn't need to. There is going to be no cute way to get him. Some team is going to have to pay the man. Hopefully it's not the Marlins.

Ah, OK. Well, schwas an idea.

Thanks for the info, Lou.

this team needs to focus on the bench and adding another starter. the lineup is fine. if vasquez would just decide to unretire and go off another 1 year deal it would be perfect because the FA pitching pool is much deeper next year and we wouldn't have wasted money on signing some big unknown risk that is unneeded at this point anyway.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Marlins "are being very aggressive" on Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reported Friday that the Marlins might not pursue Cespedes as hard as originally thought, but Cafardo evidently is hearing differently. Cafardo adds that the Nationals are "right behind" the Marlins, the Phillies "are always sneaky" and the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees "appear intrigued by his tools." Cespedes is expected to be granted free agency in the early part of January. - Rotoworld

Sounds like Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe is throwing a bunch of sh*t at the wall and waiting for it to stick.

Dr Beinfest of MarlinsBaseball.com is reporting that Cespedes has received interest from MIA, NYI, NYM, WSH, ATL, PHI, CHC, CHW, ARZ, LAD, LAA, TEX, and the Edmonton Capitals Baseball club.

Signing with one of these teams is imminent. I hear the Nationals are 'right behind' Cespedes, the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees all 'like what his tool looks like' and the Edmonton Capitals 'always like to peek'.

He's got a HOCKEY TEAM interested?!

Have you seen that video?

I only watched a few minutes of the first video his people released. All I remember is him leg pressing who knows how much with a group of guys sitting on the machine adding extra weight. It's a really long video. Is he worth THAT much of my time? It's not that I have a short attention span, it's just that I

I see what you did there.

5:47 is only relevant if the Heat need some extra depth come playoff time.

Joe Frisaro is reporting on his blog that Cespedes should become a FA in the next 10 days. He cited an industry source saying four years, $32 million is more realistic after several teams backed off when he was originally seeking an eight-year, $60 million deal.

10 days from now we'll already have Prince on the roster :exercise
