December 9, 201114 yr I can see them signing him to play left and trading LoMo for Gio. Not only does it improve the team but it adds a ton of latin flavor which it sounds like they're looking to do. C. Buck 1B. Sanchez 2B. Infante SS. Reyes 3B. Ramirez LF. Cespedes CF. Bonifacio RF. Stanton SP. Johnson SP. Gonzalez SP. Buehrle That's a team that can compete for the playoffs. If they add another quality starting pitcher, even better.
December 13, 201114 yr Just saw on BA a younger, less expensive Cuban option, Jorge Soler. He's only 19 and it looks like most scount rate him a higher prospect.

December 17, 201114 yr New 28min video from Cespedes. You can see all the Marlins front office guys are very excited. The Encore
December 17, 201114 yr After watching that, I kinda want the guy. Yah, could you imagine this. 1. Reyes - 40 SB's 2. Boni - 40 SB's 3. Hanley - 30 SB's 4. Stanton - 20 SB's (I wouldn't doubt he could do 30+) 5. Cespedes - 30 SB's (Maybe more) That would be a ridiculous top 5 to our batting order. Shift Boni to left and you upgrade the defense.
December 18, 201114 yr i could see this guy playing left field, keep boni in center, trade gaby for SP, and place Lomo in his natural position. I like this guy ALOT! Although, I wish he showed his ability to hit it to the right side in the video and I am glad this video showed him throwing. On a lighter note, around 6 mins into the video when he does the 50" jump, did anyone else notice him completely leave the guy hanging out there. Seriously, dude wanted some love and Cespedes shall hear none of that. lol!
December 18, 201114 yr Looks like he's been chillin with Ryan Braun. Entirely possible. Nobody is gonna offer him a dime without passing multiple, random MLB-type drug tests over an extended period of time (months,) no matter how many wonderful videos are produced. If he's been doing PEDs and has laid off to defeat the tests, a team may be fooled and only realize the mistake when he resumes and is caught later. High risk situation. Of course, if he's never done PEDs, the mere (and obvious) risk of it may drive his price down to something like 10 or 15 million for 5 or 6 years, which might be a risk worth taking. He's not a pitcher who throws a 110 mph fastball.
December 18, 201114 yr i want this guy on our team. also signing him would allow us to trade lomo or gaby for the much needed pitching we need
December 18, 201114 yr This guy is the real deal. Family of mine from Cuba know him personally. His work ethic is incredible. Spends HOURS and HOURS in the batting cages even on off days. Never stop working on his game. He will be the first Cuban Hitter to come out of Cuba hitting 30-PLUS homers every year. WE NEED TO GET HIM.
December 18, 201114 yr Yoenis Cespesdes = Nelson Cruz i'd be happy with that so long as he is today's nelson cruz. and not the nelson cruz that looked like a AAAA player for a couple seasons
December 18, 201114 yr Looks good. However, watching him run I can tell he doesn't have nearly the speed of Hanley or Jose. Not even close. Could be a good signing or could be a bad one. We have the luxury of taking that risk now. I'd prefer a starting pitcher.
December 19, 201114 yr I'd be curious to see how long a team would have to keep him in the minors before he comes up.

He's fast for his weight... at least that's what they're getting at.
December 19, 201114 yr I think if he's signed, he'll be MLB-ready. He would likely have an intensive spring training where the FO would do everything possible in order to make sure he gets a good taste of MLB pitching.
December 19, 201114 yr At this point, it's a good possibility we will make a strong push for him. He needs to hurry and gain residency.
December 19, 201114 yr At this point, it's a good possibility we will make a strong push for him. He needs to hurry and gain residency. I'd be a little surprised. The FO got the bat they wanted (Reyes), and Cespedes won't even be an official FA until January (assuming there are no more snags). Nobody affiliated with the team has even mentioned his name since before the Winter Meetings.

Dang, if he Hanley thing spirals out of control then I could see them making a push if they want to move Boni to 3rd. That's assuming we don't get a 3rd base back from whatever Hanley deal. I don't see that happening though.
