Yoenis Cespedes to Athletics

Featured Replies

The kid has never even faced MLB pitching and you want to throw all this money at him? Fancy YouTube video, but no thanks.

So what are you guys thinking, something like 3/$18MM?

That obviously won't land Cespedes if he's looking $60mm...

Yeah... nobody cares what he's looking for.

Edit: fine, 20years 60MM

Now you're only giving him $3mm a year.

Team's that are trying to sign him will care what he's looking for.

No they wont. lol. He doesn't set the market price, hes never played before. Teams set the market price. If he wants 60MM, then good luck buddy.

That's what his agent is wanting, I should have said. Obviously nobody's gonna bite on that, and when they realize that, they'll lower the amount. Don't say he doesn't set the market price - Aroldis Chapman never threw a pitch in the Majors before, and he got 6 years $30.25mm. So yes, it DOES matter.

Aroldis Chapman also threw about 102MPH.

And this guy is an every day player with all-star potential, it seems.

You don't make the Cuban national team without being the best...and that includes being good against good pitching, can't compare it with Major League pitching but it's not that far off either, and that's almost all of the 3th-5th rotation guys on all MLB teams.

I've watched Cuban baseball before, and yes it is.

The majority of the pitchers in Cuba don't reach the 90's with their fastball. Like, the pitching really sucks. Yuniesky Maya was a stud over there; look how he irrelevant he was last year.

Chapman was the exception.

The pitching is not good. When you watch the games and look at the player stats over there, just about everyone is hitting over .300 and there are certain guys hitting near .400 by the end of the year.

Not only that but i wonder about the amount of scouting that goes on over there. Any hole he has is going to be exploited over here.

The kid has talent but 60 mil is alot.

Like I said, he is in no position to set the market price. No way in hell he gets that.

I bet we get him. Loria is probably raging right now.

A cuban star playing in Little Havana... *shrugs*

and yes, Loria has officially gone crazy.......... crazy like a fox!

To be fair, Bryce Harper never faced big league pitching and look what he got. As a matter of fact, all draft picks are a crapshoot and the top ones get millions of dollars.

It's a risk but I think a Aroldis Chapman type contract wouldn't hurt us too bad... I mean, we're not financially crippled anymore.

Pretty much 6 years of Cespedes = 1.5 years of 40 year old Pujols.

If they want a cuban star for the sake of it, they should go after Soler. The numbers going around for Cespedes are insane.

Has Cespedes ever faced MLB quality pitching? How did he do? Was he overmatched? Do we have any evidence either way?

I can't see the Fish going after Cespedes.. they're not going to trade LoMo or Gaby for pitching in the hopes that they get Cespedes.. and they're not going to sign Cespedes in the hopes of trading LoMo or Gaby for pitching, losing all leverage.

Right? Or am I overthinking it?

Did Cespedes play in the WBC last time?

He did.

From his Wikipedia page:

"Céspedes was Cuba's starting center fielder in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He hit .458/.480/1.000 with a double, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 5 runs and 5 RBI in six games."

Small sample size, though.

WTF is this? T-ball? Holy sh*t. Sign him up right now, not for 60MM though.

What does cespedes have anything to do with trading Gaby/Lomo for pitching, I don't get it.

You do understand that the team has to put 8 position player on the field, and that they may want to have those 8 be MLB caliber, correct?
