January 15, 201214 yr rather spend money elsewhere, especially with next years FA pitching class Well, if we can sign Cespedes for 8-years, $45 Mill we really won't be spending a ton of money... Not nearly enough to handcuff us next year. Prince, on the other hand...
January 15, 201214 yr I don't understand the whole 8 year thing and why people keep saying this, those are way too many years for an unknown. 3 years is perfect IMO.
January 15, 201214 yr Yeah. A player who has never played a game in the MLB will not receive an 8 year contract. That's only in Cespedes dreams.
January 15, 201214 yr i dont really like him thattt much and i would honestly rather fielder thought he would cost a lot more.
January 16, 201214 yr Yeah. A player who has never played a game in the MLB will not receive an 8 year contract. That's only in Cespedes dreams. Well if you're going to shell out that kind of money, why would you do it over a 3-year period if you could do it for 8-years? Obviously 8-years, $45 Million will get you a lot more for your money...

Thats our point though, you don't shell that kinda money just like you don't shell that many years with an unknown.
January 16, 201214 yr The net deal is what counts, though. The number of years of dollars in isolation is only 1, limited part. 8 years/$35 versus 3 years/$12, for example, is the comparison. You might get a discount on an 8 year deal, but you might not, since he's entering his prime and still developing. Still, the 8-year deal could probably be cheaper per year than what they'd take for a 3-5 year deal.
January 16, 201214 yr Yeah, it's not like $45 million was decided upon. Tell him to go f*** himself and that he can have 3 years/$18 million and to piss off otherwise.

In fact, my estimate is optimistic.

January 16, 201214 yr I would rather have tubby for 3 years than cespooledes for 8. Not that the years/money make sense but yeah. Squal are you joining me on the prince train, always room for one more.... Mike you're invited as well
January 16, 201214 yr They're going to over pay him because he is cuban. He will draw a crowd. I personally couldn't care less what nationality he is...i want someone that can play.

Squal are you joining me on the prince train, always room for one more.... Mike you're invited as well The only trains i ride are on mikes mom. Also, i only want fielder for 3 years max. If we could actually get Fielder for 3 years, I'd be all for it. What would happen to Gaby though? He's still cheap enough to be a 'bench' player. And you know when somebody gets injured he'd be pretty valuable to have...

And you know when somebody gets injured he'd be pretty valuable to have... If that could happen, i wouldnt mind keeping him, but in all fairness to Gaby I think he deserves the shot to play everyday untill he proves that he shouldnt be. As far as the injuries go, your right, we will probably have plenty but alot of people on here got shot down big time when they mentioned Gaby playing somewhere other than first. Prince has been pretty healthy at 1st over his career, so i dont know where he would play considering the whole infield left infield could be injured at some point. *Crosses fingers that doesnt happen*
January 16, 201214 yr Yeah I know. I figure he could easily play 3rd though (perhaps not well) if either of the two SS's were to go down. But I agree, he deserves the shot to play every day. With the Marlins being content about their rotation though, I see no reason to trade Gaby. Unless of course you could score some RPs that substantially upgrade our BP.
January 16, 201214 yr I figured he could jump over to 3rd as well, but myself and others got hounded for it. If we somehow acquire Fielder, Id have to say Gaby is gone though. Just a wild guess. At that point, Id assume they would try to make something happen because I dont see Gaby getting more Valuable playing a Bench role.
January 16, 201214 yr Gaby would be gone. Boner and infante could play 3b, ss, or 2b. I like Gaby a lot, but we would have no need for him. Maybe a low level prospect or two to rebuild the farm.
January 16, 201214 yr Yeah Gaby might not fit guys but you've got to remember he has little trade value currently, he's not young, and he's not very flexible. Top that off with the fact that the Marlins need nohing (unless they package for an upgrade somewhere)... and Gby is still very cheap. If such a situation were to occur, it wouldn't shock me to see Gaby still here.

January 17, 201214 yr Maybe with V-mart getting hurt in Motown, the prime suspect to offer a "crazy Contract" might have been outted.
