March 13, 201214 yr Are those 20,000 spots in actual lots or garages? Or are they street parking in some dude's yard? Is the area safe several blocks from the park? Did UM used to charter buses from their campus to the Orange Bowl? Were there charter services coming from other parts of South Florida? I think people are running the risk of comparing apples to oranges. Football games are more infrequent and treated more like "events." Baseball games promote more of a family atmosphere. The fact that they are held more regularly means that people should have to put up with far less hassle. The situation you guys are describing sounds much worse than any parking I've seen for baseball stadium. I blame the city/county though (not really the Marlins) for having sh*tty transit options. I only went to 3 or 4 games at the OB and parked on-site every time, so I don't know where the other spots were located. I'm sure others on the board are more familiar. I don't think that the few blocks surrounding the park are particuarly unsafe...at least I doubt that they are more unsafe then say the areas around the AAA where people park. Like I said though, I'm not real familiar with the area. As for the old OB, a quick Internet search showed that for Hurricanes games, they used a park and ride service from lots on the opposite side of the Miami River. Is that something the Marlins are doing? I'm sure parking is going to be an issue, at least for the first few weeks as people figure it out, but I'm also sure that if the area can support 75,000-80,000 people with less parking spots available then what we have now, it should be able to accomodate 37,000 with more on-site parking. Sure, there are far less football games than baseball games, but there will also be far less people attendning these games. But isn't the Heat arena actually near downtown? Rather than being located in a low income residential area? A near downtown location should bring more safety and legitimate parking options (not some guy's yard). The AAA is in Downtown, and often surrounded by homeless people. Crime wise, it's basically the same. I, for one, end up feeling much safer in Little Havana than in Downtown Miami (though Downtown has gotten better).

I, for one, end up feeling much safer in Little Havana than in Downtown Miami (though Downtown has gotten better). People actually live in Little Havana and they want to make money from people parking in front of their homes. I doubt they are going to stand for crime taking place in front of their homes and scaring people away. Plus, I'm sure there will be a significant police presence. As for the AAA, it's in downtown and there are a lot of homeless nearby because of Camilus House a few blocks away. It has gotten better since the Miami Arena days, but I still would feel safer in a residential area surrounded by homeowners collecting parking money than homeless people panhandling. That said, if you don't know the area and don't feel comfortable walking a few blocks, buy a parking pass, take the trolly, or make sure you park and walk to the stadium in a large group with others going to the game.
March 13, 201214 yr What is the story on the land where the Robert King High Towers sit? By story I mean, how many people live there? It is public housing correct? So the land is already owned by the County. What are the ramifications of relocating the people that live there to another facility so that the land can be utilized by the county as part of the ballpark project (future metrorail station...parking lot...something along those lines). There would obviously be some negative press when you are moving families, but I'm going to plead ignorant on the stories behind the folks that live there. We don't want a situation like Chavez Ravine (I'm not suggesting its remotely close to that) where people were displaced with no place to go so that a baseball stadium could be built. Just throwing it out there for discussion
March 13, 201214 yr Something to consider regarding the impact on residents http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/10/v-fullstory/2687248/residents-around-marlins-stadium.html
March 13, 201214 yr Just a comment about the parking rules. As a season ticket buyer, my only option was purchasing a full year parking, which I didnt do for $1,200. Seems that all the people who purchased individual game tickets also had the option of purchasing a parking pass at the same time. Seems a bit unfair that I could not choose games to purchase a garage pass since I also have a ticket for any individual game and choose not to for the others. Granted, I would have to decide in advance, but I should have the same option as a single game buyer, if not more.

March 13, 201214 yr reeeaaalllyy regretting not buying parking passes with my Yanks tickets. I didn't think it would be this much of a problem.

Well, from what people are saying here, as long as you are cool with parking in some guy's yard a couple of blocks from the park, you will be fine. I can certainly see a number of fans having no problems with that, but I think it will pose long term problems.

March 13, 201214 yr Maybe we should compile a list of preferred yards to park in Or we should all chip in to buy a house in Little Havana and reserve the yard for members of MarlinsBaseball.com :ban

March 13, 201214 yr Author Okay thanks for the (mostly) constructive feedback. Will try to get someone who knows parking issue to come on here and answer all the questions posed and correct ny misinformation. Or at least have them send to me so I can post.
March 13, 201214 yr Maybe we should compile a list of preferred yards to park in Great idea It really is.
March 13, 201214 yr Author One thing I found out is that they will be selling parking passes online in next few days so if you have tickets but not parking you can buy individual game parking passes. Another things is for thos thinking of doing the tri rail to metro rail to shuttle option.... Tri rail shuts down at 930pm so that will only work for day games. More to come.

No way. The people here don't go to games. They just have online tantrums whenever poor attendance is mentioned.
March 13, 201214 yr You'd only be able to park about 4 of those in the yard and driveway, that's only 32 cars if I counted that right. What we need is 4 truck-truck-trucks from the Simpsons.

Nothing specific on the day they will go on sell? I want to get 2 more so I have one for each of the tree games I'm going.

It would pair nicely with the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter I'm sipping.

He can't talk about the Marlins. NONE OF YOU CAN. I AM A SEASON SEAT HOLDER. MY OPINION IS THE ONLY VALID OPINION AND MY JUDGMENT IS ALSO MUCH BETTER IN PERSON THAN YOUR SILLY CAMERAS AND STATISTICS AND NUMBERS AND BLAH.

March 14, 201214 yr Whenever someone references the fact that the Marlins drew less than 10,000 fans, I immediately want to smash my computer Office Space-style.
