Hanley is human garbage anyway, I was happy when we traded him and I didn't even care about the return. You're getting paid millions and you're the face of the franchise? You better play your hardest every damn second of every game.

May 6, 201412 yr Dont forget that Hanley only played in 86 games in 2013....theres no telling what his numbers would have been if he had played more than HALF the season. Dang, I forgot that. This year, K rate is up and BB rate is the same, while ISO is down. But, the BABIP looks unlucky and the HR/FB is waaaay down. I'm not watching his games, so I have no guess at to whether he's squaring up poorly, but most likely he's had a bit of bad luck so far.

He has been, at worst, the second best pitcher in baseball during that span with -0- indication it is a fluke. Let alone the likeability factor. They need to sign him before next season, and there is really no reason to not do it right now based on his pedigree. It's unanimous across baseball he is the real deal. A realistic comp is Sale/Bumgarner, 7/$70 is a healthy raise above them and gets it done (and the last 1-2 years can probably be club options making it even a better deal). If you let him throw another 20 starts and he can comp to Kershaw/Lincecum (and it may already be to late), that number will get astronomically higher. I would rather be wrong betting on Fernandez, than not betting on him at all. It would be horrible to do nothing with him, just like they did nothing with Stanton. So much value has been left on the table and a small market team CAN'T do that.
May 7, 201412 yr We lost the trade because the $ saved wasn't reinvested. Hanley is a beast when healthy. You guys hate him because he's a dark skinned hispanic. I don't hate him, but I was really frustrated with his performance in 2011-2012 and to some extent 2010. If injuries were what was holding him back, he should have been more upfront about that. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, though, if the Marlins botched the injury recovery like they did with Logan Morrison when they had him play in exhibition games on his bad knee. In Hanley's case, it was never entirely clear to me when injuries were holding him back or if he was regressing on his own. He also seemed to get worse and worse defensively, which also pissed me off. Some of the off-the-field stuff (like being a crybaby about moving to third) annoyed me too, but that's less important. I wouldn't necessarily nominate him for the Least Likable Marlin of All-Time Tournament (by the way can someone please cast the tie breaking vote between Matt Herges and Mike Rabelo?), but I can see why some people hate him.

I'm probably Eovladi's biggest fan on this board and the doyers still probably "won" it considering they got a premiere everyday player at the hardest position to fill.
