2014 Marlins Trade Deadline

Featured Replies

Has any Marlins aside from Stanton really made it consistently as a big leaguer in the last ten years or so? All I can remember are busts like Hermida, Sanchez and Morrison.

Does kind of continue to hammer home how crappy a return the Marlins got in the blue jays deal

I'm fine with Henderson Alvarez.

Just a horribly stupid trade, not to mention the freaking cheap assness of the Marlins throwing in the competitive balance pick.

How goddam stupid is this organization?

We tried to get Price, Rays preferred the other offer.

I want to see what we offered.Because I haven't seen reports of it. Sorry if I sound like a dick I don't think this move helps keep GS but us getting Price he could be thinking yes they are really trying

I'm not upset we traded Moran.

I'm upset we wasted a high pick on Moran, who we traded 2 years later.

Pretty much the issue. Always makes me sad to think if we sucked all the way up to the 2nd overall pick in 2012 we would've ended up with Kris Bryant that draft.

I'll need a minute alone people.

One year later. Moran was the 6th overall pick in 2013. :|

Heaney was our pick two years ago.

dim made a good point - we have like 5 *good* pitching prospects in the upper minors, isn't it a fair bet that at least one of them can be better than Jacob Turner? Because that would seem to remove the need to make this deal.

and its just silly if they've fallen in love with Casey. We just went through this a few years ago and dealt Matt Dominguez. What happens when McGehee's average comes back to earth?

Dunno, feels like trade for the sake of trading.

So the marlins FO turned heel on us. This feels just as bad as when Seth Rollins turned his back on the shield.

It's never a bad thing to have more controllable pitching depth.

You are really overrating moran. if he wasn't the 6th pick would you be so bummed right now? i know the whole blowing the 6th pick sucks but you can't equate that into calling this a bad trade. i actually like it.

He's replacing turner in the rotation. right. if so, when is his next start

Tomorrow probably

Has the potential to be good too.

I don't think many people realize that Cosart has FIVE years of team control left. Unfortunately he's a walks machine, he was in the minors and he continues to be in the majors. There's still a lot of potential with Cosart, as he was a former top 100 prospect and is a 24 year old with nearly 200 major league innings under his belt.

I think some people are upset because the trade finally led to the realization that all of our concerns about Moran were pretty much prevalent within the front office. It took a decent sized signing bonus to sign Moran, so for the front office to give up on Moran after just a year shows how drastically they feel his ceiling has dropped. When drafted Moran was a guy who could possibly develop some power while maintaining his ability to hit for contact. Unfortunately the power isn't there, the plate discipline isn't there, and while the hit tool is still somewhat there, it is good enough to really make up for the lack of everything else. His value has dropped a great deal since being drafted last year.

getting price would have been the opposite because they would have said "well we wanted to keep stanton but cant because we have price's $$ on the books"

Not sure why u all are so big on Moran? I said 2 years ago it was a stupid pick. The guy is a 280-290 hitter with 10 Hr potential. He will be ave at best. Marisnick is a 4th OF on any team. In Cosart we get a 24 year old with number 1 stuff. I like the deal.

Stop trying to make me feel better. LET ME BE GRUMPY.

More along the Marlins will F it up with McGehee and have no third baseman again after this season, its not that I thought Moran was end all be all, but there is absolutely no one in the farm system to take his place when they go cheap and can't resign him

I guess Avery is still an option in the system too. I didn't love Moran particularly, just seems like we went from really weak positional depth in the org and now have even less.

Anyhow probably hinges on Cosart somehow cleaning up the BB issues.
