A Refreshing Change in Perception

Kid 1 draws a Marlins logo on his paper...

Kid 2 next to him "That's the Marlins. They're good right?"

Kid 1 "Yeah! They're awesome!"

Kid 3 "The Marlins can beat every team!"

Kid 4 "Yeah Marlins are the best!"

...true story, five minutes ago. I know they're just kids but the perception is changing in 2015. I can't tell you how that conversation usually went in my classroom over the years. Hopefully the team can capitalize on this on the field as well as in the community. What a refreshing change.

That's good to hear. I remember when I taught in South Florida it went a lot more like this:

"The Heats are the best team ever and basketball is the only sport in the world."

"Yeah, but the World Cup is starting soon."

"Oh yeah, I also love soccer."

"Baseball is cool."

"Haha, loser. The Marleen suck. Aren't they the worst team in baseball ever or something?"

And they were right.

With the Heat no longer a national thing, and the Dolphins being the Dolphins, it's about time the Marlins get their chance to be the premiere team in Miami. Even though I think the Heat will always be relevant.

Or Heats, as my students called them.

Where did you teach?

Believe it or not, I actually find basketball boring. Yes its fast paced and exciting at a glance but whenever I've attempted to watch an entire game I just see it as a repetitive process that devalues the action. Mostly because of the constant scoring.

Would a home run be as exciting if there were 45 of them per team each game? That's how I see basketball. I'm more excited by the slow buildup of a baseball game than the faster pace of basketball.

Not trying to shoot the sport down, I don't hate it, but I'm extending @legacyofCangelosi s point that anything someone doesn't have an interest in can be viewed as boring.

I completely agree. In a sport where both teams can score over 100 points, one point of essentially meaningless. In baseball, however, every run can be crucial, especially with 1-0 games being a distinct possibility. Basketball bores me because, in a competitive game between evenly matched teams, nothing matters until the fourth quarter.
