Ramos is just about the only real asset we have that we can trade. I'd look for a young, controllable 1B or 3B for him. If the offer isn't awesome, hold on to him.

However, we can't keep ignoring the fact that the lineup needs a lot of work.

I'd have to imagine we could get an arm and a leg for Capps right now

I wouldn't trade Ramos or Capps but I imagine they'd both bring in a nice overpay. As for Latos and Haren I'm gonna guess we trade one but not both.

Give them Haren for Guerrero (to play 3rd)

The problem with Koehler is his home/away splits are so utterly dramatic so he's actually pretty useless as a 5 in that context.

Ive been an advocate for trying to get Guerrero since Olivo bit his ear off.  He has an incredible bat and they have an overflow of talent in their lineup.

Id be perfectly fine with trading Ramos if we can somehow find someone to give us a top hitting prospect.  Not sure how likely that is.  I wouldn't let Capps go anywhere.  His delivery is completely unfair and the fact that it is legal means we need to keep him for quite a while in our bullpen.

You're right. I forgot about Capps. That's another arm I'd trade. Who knows how long that delivery stays legal, and he could fetch us a pretty nice hitting prospect

Good analysis would read again.

I'm not going into this again. I've posted Cishek's recent stats and he's not giving up runs anymore. I don't even care if he's on the team or not next year I just hate reading everybody trash Cishek like he's the worst reliever ever this year. It's annoying to read like he didn't bring great value for us the last 4+ years.

His WHIP this month is at 1.6 and it's been his best month of the year. Is that analysis good enough for you? Judging a reliever based on his ERA is not a good idea. Plus, he's pitched, what? 6 innings this month? So, 6 innings of 1.6 WHIP = turning it around?

Cishek in just June

5.2 IP, 1 ER, 5K's, 7 hits, 2 BB's. (1 intentional )

That's pretty bad. And they aren't even in critical situations. He also inherited 7 runners and allowed 3 of them to score and allowed 2 stolen bases.

He's pitching better but only because he was utter shit before. Now he's mediocre at best. We're paying 6.65M for a -4 RAR player.

Him and Morse fucked us big time.

We should trade Latos and Haren. If we want Latos sign him again next year when he's a FA. If we don't show him the money won't matter if we trade him or not.

And we should keep Capps and Ramos. Finally found a solid 8-9 inning combo, wouldn't want to trade that away. Keep them while they're cheap for a couple years and then trade them away, not now.

Couldnt agree more.

Our top 5 paid players and their rWAR and WPA

1) Latos, 9.4m, -1.1 WAR, -1.27 WPA

2) Prado, 8m, 0.8 WAR, -0.14 WPA

3) Morse, 7.5m, -0.7 WAR, -1.02 WPA

4) Salty, 7m, -0.3 WAR, -0.67 WPA

5) Cishek, 6.7m, -0.7 WAR, -2.63 WPA

Four of our top five paid players combined for -2.8 WAR. Going by WPA, they've costed us 5.6 wins. While making up a combined 44% of our payroll. If they performed as they were suppose to, that's about a 6-10 win swing.

To be fair, I never understood the reasoning for trading for Mat Latos to begin with.

It wasn't out of the imagination that DeSlcafani would be more valuable both this season and going forward and he had versatility as well, being able to pitch either in the rotation or in long relief. Just a dumb move.

Anything we get from the Yankees or Red Sox will be garbage...

Perennial playoff contenders don't have great farms...the have great PR. If there was anything of value on these teams...they would be playing in the major.

...this won't end well.

Although the trade deadline is looming, I would still like to see how the rotation of Fernandez, Alvarez, Cosart, Latos, and Koehler do for the rest of the season.

Wishful thinking.

What's the point of holding onto Latos unless they plan to re-sign him?  I mean they may but I just doubt it right now.

Latos is definitely a wild card.  If he throws well tonight and in his next couple of starts, he could still be traded given a higher perceived value.  Realistically, I predict Latos and his salary get dumped and Urena stays in the rotation.

Ideally Latos improves from here on out, we win every game he starts including tonight, his value rises, and we then trade him for a nice piece of 2016. That's the perfect scenario with Latos right there. If you wanna extend it to Latos himself that would likely help him get a nice free agent contract whether it's with us or not.

The other factor to all this is an abysmal offense.  With Jose, Alvarez, and Cosart getting healthier, do the Fish trade the likes of Latos, Haren, Cishek, and Prado in exchange for some instant offense?

See . . . who says watching a team with a losing record is no fun?

jesus.   that is bananas right there.

Loria finally goes out & spends a little and they all bomb.  He's going to retreat back into his shell again.

You probably nailed it.

The only reason would be getting a comp pick at the end of the year.

But then you need to be sure that

1) The comp pick is better than what he would get in a trade

2) He will be viable for a comp pick

3) He won't accept arbitration

If he's building up steam and you think someone might be desperate and will pony up more in August, you could also skip the July 31st deadline and hope for a good deal then. But trading him before the trade deadline makes the most sense unless you're looking to extend him.

Obviously the one year guys like Haren and Latos should be and will be dealt for the maximum return.

The only people under club control past this year they should trade are Cishek and Morse. Other than that keep all the talent you can on the roster stocked up for next year and beyond. No point in trading Kohler, Hand or anyone else that gives us more value than their possible return. Even Prado is super valuable considering his versatility and the fact that we have him at a discount thanks to the Yanks.

Yea but could we realistically get for Morse and Cishek? Throw in Lorias desire to never pay any salary to maybe improve on the return and you're left with ... ? Nada. If anything we'd have to give something away to entice someone to take on Morse at this point. He really has no value. Playing like shit, no pop, hurt his finger and now back, will be a year older... Cishek still has some hope but Morse... If we released him no one would pick him up, much less give us anything in return. Only shot is if he comes back tearing it up and someone desperately needs a L bat but I don't see it happening

imo :

real Keepers:  stanton, fernandez, yelich, capps and dee

sort of Keepers:  ozuna, hech and alvarez

get Rid of asap:  haren (t-value) morse (junk)

upgrade catcher 1st base center relief pitching and hitting coach ... oh yeah and maybe get a real manager?

BTW: for those hopeful on Morse - He stunk up the minor leagues K-ing 16 times (in only 34 ab's) and now is crying about a sore back.
