Take him...

The Royals have interest in Marlins infielder Martin Prado, FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi tweets. The 31-year-old Prado recently returned from a shoulder injury and is batting .277/.316/.374 in 308 plate appearances in his first season in Miami. He’s making $11MM this season and next, although the Yankees are paying $3MM of that in each season. Morosi notes that the Royals would need to receive cash from the Marlins in the deal. Whether the Marlins would agree to send any is unclear — another recent report indicated that they weren’t interested in dealing Prado at all.

In any case, the Royals have a good player, Mike Moustakas, at third base, where Prado has played most of this year. But Royals second baseman Omar Infante has mostly struggled, so Prado could potentially help at that position. Also, he can help the Royals in the corner outfield while they wait for Alex Gordon to return from the DL — right fielderAlex Rios has hit just .256/.290/.333 this season.

I would much rather trade Prado and keep Dietrich.

i would try to keep both

I wish they'd just disregard money and make Prado the super utility guy off the bench. I feel like he'd be more valuable in that case. It's time that they start giving Dietrich more playing time because power is needed in the lineup, especially a left-handed power bat.

I really dont get the fucking obsession with Martin Prado.  He is going to be fucking 32 next year.  If you can get a controllable piece for 5 years that isnt an abject failure than fucking move him.  Hitters are very desired in this market.

I can't believe they would trade Dietrich, it would be like a fucking get out of jail free card.

This is a fucking lost season, why they dont run Dietrich out there daily to see what he can do is beyond fucking me.  Especially with Gordon hurt.

It should be Dietrich at 3b and Prado at 2b or vice versa daily.  That's why this organization and in this case manager has no fucking clue.  What the fuck is accomplished playing Macghee any?  70 wins instead of 68 ?  maybe?  who gives a flying fuck.

I"d venture to say what the fuck is gained not moving Morse and eating 75% of his deal because hey, it saves you 25% and gets you some piece for you to maybe use somewhere.

Who cares that you have to eat his salary?  it was a retarded signing and MLB is flush with money (including the fucking Marlins who get massive sums of money before selling one fucking ticket)

They may end up taking a similar deal but keep in mind, thus far the guy coming back would be an old low level prospect aka a guy with virtually no chance of ever contributing.  It'd be a straight salary dump.

who gives a fuck.  saves them 25% or so in salary.  i dont see why they havent already fucking done it.

I want Morse out of here as much as the next guy but is it crazy to think that if the return is a guy who'll never make the majors maybe we're better off keeping Morse to see if any improvement happens?

he's owed 9mil next year, plus like 2m for the rest of this year.

so someone (the Giants) are willing to take him off the Marlins' hands for what? 3 mil? that's not gonna be money re-invested wisely. better off keeping him as a backup 1B or something

Im the Marlins, I'd cash in on every hitter except for my outfield. Prado, Morse, even Ozuna. I'd get this farm back up and running. Next year I'd hit the FA crop, rinse and repeat til we find some diamonds in the rough.

Not sure it would be wise to trade Ozuna now. His value has likely dipped significantly with the atrocious year he has been having.

This is also a 24-year-old who is a year removed from being a 3.7 WAR player. I'd rather take the chance on him re-figuring it out than dumping him for some B or C-level prospects who might never even see the majors and probably won't even be as good as Ozuna if they do.

As far as Morse goes, I'm not sure how much we would be able to cash in on a 33-year-old who is OPSing .592. We would probably even have to eat a good portion of his contract in a deal. As others have said, it seems it would be best to hold on to him and hope he gets his head out of his ass next season.

Marlins aren't interested in trading him.  Only would if they get blown away and paying part of his deal does not equate to blown away.

Have you heard anything about the plan for Mathis? I really hope they plan on making a change. His bat is just unacceptable.

Remember our best offense? When we had two capable hitters in Baker and Paulino in 2009.

We need a better complement to Realmuto, not essentially having two pitchers hitting in our lineup.

They are content with Mathis (for now) because they like his work elsewhere and aren't too concerned with getting offense from the backup catcher.  The pitchers feel comfortable working with him in their side sessions.

That's crazy though. There are plenty of very solid defensive catchers who can hit much better than him. Maybe you could hide his bat in the AL but not with the pitcher batting.

The guy is a serious offensive liability.
