I have to compare: Jennings vs Fredi-here is Fredi's comments yesterday after losing to the Nats in extras.  Sure brings back memories.  It is an achievement that they did not walk anyone.  Great.

I just watched Dodgers game tonight. Mattingly's bullpen managing was so terrible thru his career, not just today game. I said no, Mattingly for next Marlins manger.

 

I dont like Donnie baseball as a manager, but he the biggest issue is that Donnie Baseball has 3 pitchers on his entire roster that he can trust.

Dan Jennings, aware that he’s not being retained as manager, hasn’t told the Marlins if he will accept an offer to return to the general manager job after the season, according to people close to the situation.

 

The Marlins expect he will return to that GM position unless an enticing job with final personnel authority is offered to him elsewhere. Jennings had been mentioned as one of numerous possibilities for the Seattle GM job.

 

In Miami, the GM is second in the baseball hierarchy behind the president of baseball operations (Michael Hill). And owner Jeffrey Loria obviously has say in every important baseball decision.

 

Even though Jennings would have been happy to continue as manager, the Marlins want to instead hire an experienced one from a long list of potential candidates.

 

In his press briefings in the past few days, Jennings has declined to discuss his future or say whether he would be happy returning to the GM role.

 

I think Jennings is just waiting for some offer from other teams.

People keep saying that Jennings is widely respected and coveted as an executive, but I don't think I'd miss him. Just blow the whole thing up.

I'd be even more shocked if Redmond got a managerial position. I think the Marlins were the only organization dumb enough to think he was fit for the job with so little experience.

Redmond getting another position managing wouldn't surprise me. What we think and what the people who make baseball decisions think isn't always the same. Same goes for the perception of Jennings as a GM. I mean, even with our lack of success I can't pinpoint any one horrible thing DJ has done that A) wouldn't have been done by many other GMs or that B) was the one solely reason why we suck.

 

People think DJ wanted to remain manager because he's been outwardly positive about his managing stint and hasn't been open about his future, thus the media ridiculously concludes that he wants to stay as a manager.

 

In general, I think DJ has said all the right things lately as it pertains to his future. He hasn't said he hated managing or that he's dying to leave or even that he's dying to stay as a manager. He's danced around the subject fairly and positively.

 

 

...also, Jennings' role isn't as important as everyone is making it seem as far as GM. Remember he's second-in-command, not first. Its the President of Baseball Operations position that would likely shape our next few seasons. So basically this thing is on whether or not Mike Hill leaves, not DJ.

That's the least of their problems.  You can build a good organization and a good team without analytics.  The problem is that they are incompetent from top to bottom.  Although, Jennings did have a good reputation before coming here, so I guess more of the blame can be placed on Loria's shoulders.
