Jose Fernandez Rumor

Featured Replies

I just heard an short interview in the ticket 790 and the tone of his voice you can tell that he's disappointed and don't want to be here anymore. Not sure if it's the same "No comment" interview

Ah I haven't heard that yet

But Jose seems pretty lukewarm on the topic - maybe it's Boras in his ear, or maybe he really wants out.

What a difference 2 years makes..............

Much of baseball's growth and revenue is attributed to media rights. It seems unlikely to me that hefty rights agreements are going to be sustainable in the long term without bankrupting the regional sports networks. I suspect that eventually the bubble will burst.

A number of teams that have signed new media rights deals are either just now taking place or are not due to begin for another year or two.

Baseball is also banking on their advanced media (MLBAM), which is destroying profits, as they really were first to the game in North America and are the best at it, of which the NHL's steaming package is done by the MLBAM, so owners get a piece of that also.

That's a lot to infer from the tone of his voice in one interview.  Especially an interview right after all of that trade talk.  We just have to wait and see how this plays out.

But why he doesn't tell the reporter "looking forward to" or "of course that's the plan" why does he have to answer with " I'm not gonna answer that" it means that he knows he got one foot out and the other in the Dodgers locker room. Of course this is all interpretation by all of us and have to wait and see

I think the truth on Jose is a combination of many things. He is young and full of energy but he's also juvenile to an extent. It's easy to say stupid smart ass things when you're 22 or 23 years old even if your intentions were well.

It's also very possible that he's frustrated with this team's lack of offseason moves or whatever else from the firing of Jennings to the trade rumors and anything in between.

It's also possible that Boras is in his ear and he's been taught to answer things bluntly at times.

He could also just be having a bad day at the time he was being interviewed. Like he literally could have been stuck in traffic for an hour or just had to change a flat tire, etc etc.

Point is, he's human.

My wife met him at the last Winter Warmup in February and asked him to sign something... I can not tell you the disappointment in her face when she came to tell me she met Jose Fernandez. I've thought about that moment many times. He absolutely cannot be Mr Happy Marlins Guy every single damn time he's face to face with another human being. It's just a fact.

So who's the real Jose? Somewhere in the middle of all that is my guess.

I agree with most everything that you say here with the exception of one thing.  When you are the "Ace"  and one of the "faces of the franchise"  you are paid to be an Ambassador of the franchise.  Its part of the deal.  I agree that you cant be at the top of your "PR Game"  all the time but it is very very telling that you cant answer the question about the team being competitive.  All that question requires is a cookie-cutter response that goes something like this:  "Yeah I think the team as it stands now will be competitive.  Last year was last year but we were hit with some pretty devastating injuries, myself included, that didn't give us much of a chance but we finished strong.  Now that we are healthy, we are definitely ready to go win some games!"  Simple, to the point, and goes miles for a writer to print a comment.  Saying "No comment"  just makes people suspect of you.

Dodgers acquiring Ozuna does zero to really fix their glut of outfielders.

I think they picked up Thompson as a hedge against trading Pederson, not because they want to necessarily acquire another OF.  (and cause Thompson's daddy and one of the Dodgers owners are good buddies)

And Prado doesnt play SS.

Starting to think there may be huge deal being set up here.  Thinking that it may look like this:

Dodgers get:  Ozuna, the keeed, and prado

Marlins get: seager, Urias, Pedersen, deleon, and 2 or 3 other young names

Prado replaces Seager, Ozuna replaces Pedersen with Klaye's little brother, picked up today, being the backup to all 3 OF positions.

Dodgers trade puig and their off-season is done.

Marlins sign Chen to 5/85 deal Kennedy to a 3/36 deal and we are done.

I hate trading Prado but this deal and those signings set us up for reasonably cheap for several years.

What do you guys think?

Forgot to mention. If there isn't something else brewing, why wouldn't the Dodgers just trade for Frazier on there own?

I just hope this Montas kid isn't a piece the Dodgers are picking up to flip to the Fish in a Fernandez deal.  Unless he is the third arm after Urias, and DeLeon.  It would be just like the Fish to acquire Montas and say they had him rated higher or has a higher ceiling than DeLeon.  I guess that I am scared of the Fish settling as usual.  I know @Admin that you have explained their intents but I am always skeptical.

So if we're speculating something is brewing after today's trade what's the idea .... That we'd get Montas? Or that the Dodgers keep Montas to give us Urias? I'm confused how this would work.

But I do feel like the Dodgers have something in mind because this doesn't seem like their kind of trade. The Dodgers get prospects and the only major leaguer switches between the other two teams? That's a red flag that LA wants those prospects for something else.

I would think (hope) that the Marlins are sticking to their guns by asking for Urias, Seager, and Pederson.  If that is the case then Montas is either the second arm for the fish in the deal, or they are adding depth to their organization because both DeLeon and Urias are heading to the Marlins.  I would hope we are getting both Urias and DeLeon.  Of course who the hell knows.  Nothing has been reported about the Marlins.  We are all just speculating.  Maybe the Dodgers really liked Montas and had an opportunity to pick him up.

It's all just speculation but I think it's both a fair and logical speculation.

Dodgers wanted Jose and made an attempt, Arizona gets Grienke/Miller and Giants get Cueto/Samardzija, it makes sense that the Dodgers still want Jose and may be setting that up .
