Jose Fernandez Rumor

Featured Replies

Whenever I read a Frisaro article I consider what its real purpose is.

Its like when we see WW2 propaganda - it has a motive. Or when you see Dawn Soap commercials comparing their product to "the other guys!"

An article about "Why Jose will give us the best chance to compete" tells me that the war room made a call and asked for some good press about how Jose won't be traded. Everything else he actually wrote is just word junk food.

Its a common misconception here, Joe doesn't work for the Marlins.

Doesn't mean he doesn't take a free article when the phone rings.

In my mind it would take Seager, Urias, plus but if I'm the dodgers I don't make that trade because I wouldn't want to give up Seager. I'd go for Carrasco who would take a smaller package. The only way I can see a deal for jose without Seager is Urias and like 5 of their other top prospects.

this is my favorite part of that article

The team intends to contend in 2016...

If the Marlins don't end up making any substantive deals, they appear fine going with Fernandez, Tom KoehlerJarred CosartJustin Nicolino and Adam Conley as their starters.

Predicted ERAs for those starters:

Fernandez: 3.30

Koehler: 4.77

Cosart: 5.10

Nicolino: 4.90

Conley: 4.30

On any decent MLB team....

Fernandez - legit Starter/Ace

Tom Koehler - legit AAA pitcher (excellent to bring up when others hurt)

Jarred Cosart - Might be allowed on a decent team to be a #5.  Only as a test run at best...must over achieve to keep his job

Justin Nicolino -  MLB Starter     lol only in Miami

Adam Conley -  Raw AAA

so yeah...we screwed if this is the case

Koehler, Cosart and Conley all have what it takes to be back-end-of-the-rotation guys. The problem is that we have all three of them in our rotation at the moment.

The bolded/underlined is a pretty big caveat, though. That's only IF the Marlins don't make any deals, so we don't really know yet.

To be fair, Koehler is everything you want in a #5 starter.  He is durable and eats up a lot of innings.  A low 4 ERA is acceptable out of #5.  The problem is that Nicolino and Cosart are also # 5's at best right now.  We need a legit 2 and 3 for 2016.

Yeah. If we had a legitimate No. 2, I really wouldn't have too much a problem with this rotation, as I think one of Cosart/Conley COULD develop into a low-end No. 3, and Koehler is fine in the back of the rotation.

In all honesty, I have doubts Jose Fernandez will be a Marlin on opening day.

Considering Tom Koehler is the new front office shill I wouldn't be surprised if they just made him the opening day starter. He did have a sub-4 era last year!!
