June 10, 201610 yr 15 walks in 65 1/3 innings with a 0.53 ERA and 131 strikeouts as a senior Finally a decent first rounder... However he already verbally committed to Vanderbilt so lets see if he even signs. (Source): http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlins/fl-marlins-draft-0610-20160609-story.html
June 10, 201610 yr Author I didn't even know that the draft was today Considering it's probably the worst draft class in recent years, i don't blame you. This draft has hardly any significant players. We got a good one though. Fans should be happy.
June 10, 201610 yr Was reading about him this week and many scouts agree he has the highest floor of most first rounders and a very high ceiling as well. Also even though the fastball only clocks at about 88-92, many believe with work and added muscle he should be a 93-95 kinda guy.

June 10, 201610 yr Dude's one of the most advanced high schoolers scouts have ever seen. Curveball is best in the draft. Hopefully he signs. I'm betting he does. See you in Batavia, bro.
June 10, 201610 yr I won't get excited until he signs. When's the cutoff date for signing? Your birthday. So that he won't sign on your birthday. And disappoint you.
June 10, 201610 yr He'll sign. Guys who don't sign are guys who are taken way lower than they expect, so they play college ball in hopes of moving up and getting more money. As the eighth overall pick, he'll take the money, I think.

June 10, 201610 yr unless he gets severely lowballed. cause Loria. True, but I think if they were trying to Loria the draft, they would have taken a guy like Naylor last year.

June 10, 201610 yr I probably would have gone Jason Groome instead. We'll have to monitor that one in a few years to see how it pans out...
June 10, 201610 yr I wouldn't worry about him not signing. If they weren't 100% sure he was going to sign, they probably would have taken someone like Collins from UM instead.
June 10, 201610 yr Garret will sign, the problem is that it will probably go down to the wire like always. Rather they take care of this quickly and get him on the field playing. Groome gets picked by the Red Sox. Do you think he signs?
June 10, 201610 yr Garret will sign, the problem is that it will probably go down to the wire like always. Rather they take care of this quickly and get him on the field playing. The only player I remember it going to wire with lately was Heaney. Everyone else has signed pretty quick. With the way the draft is now, the signing drama is fairly limited. I doubt this doesn't get done quickly, if a contract already isn't in place.
June 10, 201610 yr They will save some money, because I don't see him getting full slot money. Probably 80% like @Das Texan had said. When was our next pick again?
June 10, 201610 yr I like most do not believe The Marlins will not have a hard time signing him I just hope they don't screw him up like they have been doing with a lot of their other prospects It seems they try to make all players to throw the same exact pitches in the same exact way. If you notice few Marlins actually ever use curveballs. It almost like they clone one type of pitcher. He is very different from the normal Marlins pitching prospect and that worries me because the Marlins tend to screw these kids up
