A lot can go wrong in the time in between. Keep Ramos as closer, keep Phelps in the bullpen, and I like this deal. Don't mess with what works. Ramos in the ninth works, Phelps in the pen works. Rodney can arrow into the eighth.

Might as well move Mike Dunn to the rotation.

June 30, 201610 yr I am not opposed to trading for Rodney but I figured Naylz and Paddack are the only ones worth keeping. There are a ton of OF and pitching prospects we could've unloaded. How many times do the Marlins trade players for prospects and get so-so players. God, this FO is dumb.

Yes there's a chance Paddack breaks down before even reaching the ML. There's an even better chance that the hitters adjust to him, a la Dontrelle. But what about the reward if neither of those happen? You get an ace at team-friendly rates for several years. Plus, there's the risk/reward on the other side of the deal. People mention the Urbina trade and argue that the WS championship justified the steep price of trading Adrian Gonzalez. Let's consider an alternative universe, one where Urbina pitched lights out for the Marlins, who ultimately lost a Game 7 at Yankee Stadium. Would the Urbina deal still have been worth it under those circumstances? Probably not.

June 30, 201610 yr To be fair, those rankings would look a lot different if they were done now. Oh yeah they would. Paddack would crack any top 100 (more towards the 100) list right now and is probably our #1 or #2 prospect.
