Dee Gordon traded to the Seattle Mariners

Featured Replies

Per Ken Rosenthal

Gordon to the Mariners for RHP Nick Neidert (Seattle's #2 prospect), IF Christopher Torres (#7 prospect), and RHP Robert Dugger. Seattle picks up the entirety of the $38 million remaining on Gordon's contract. Marlins also send $1 million in international pool money.

Mariners wanted to get better on the basepaths and plan to play Gordon in center field not second base.

They better have gotten something good. He’s had two out of three great years and relatively affordable.

Not “great” really. He’s a solid player. Probably didn’t get a great return.

So how fucking cheap is this ownership going? Dee's contract wasn't that large in the grand scheme especially considering there's no way Ozuna stays. So basically Yelich and Realmuto and a bunch of nobodies???

It's always cute when we think we're gonna get something of value for one of our players

This is a good haul, Neidert is considered an elite prospect but a bit old:

this is a really good trade.  Cut dee's salary, and get 2 interesting prospects in Torres and Neidart.

Didn't think I'd react this way but I feel like I'm not caring so much about Gordon leaving (though I'll miss him) or about what the return is... I'm feeling more like excited that the steps to the rebuild are finally happening. I know this is gonna be bumpy but it kinda feels like we just started the engines and it's like "allright let's do this!"

Also super happy to read they took the entire contract.

Mariners are paying all of Dee's salary so that's completely off the books. Is Niedert our new #1 prospect? (Because that's so sad if he is...)

Why do we keep sending international money? Derek Loria...

Mike Hill is still running the show so.....

I wouldn't go that far.

Neidert is a mid rotation potential guy, Torres is a 19 year old who at the very least adds talent to the position players in the system, and we cut all the salary from a player in Dee who i didnt think was all that spectacular anyway.

All part of the Stanton plan.  They told G that these guys will start on the 25 man roster, so you better agree to go anywhere because we will really suck.
